215 Engine Swap

Postby OldsStarfire » Sun Apr 18, 2021 8:29 pm

Anybody here still active that has done a Buick / Olds 215 engine swap? I'm in the middle of that now and I'm having some issues with the drivers side exhaust manifold hitting the power steering box and the starter hitting the frame rail. I would appreciate and advice.

Thanks - Jeff

there is apparently a mini starter available for 215 and d&d fabrication is still in business.

Is manual steering a must with these conversions? The exhaust manifold interference is pretty bad. I'm not sure how I'm going to get around that.

i have no idea if this helps but cpp has a ps box based on smaller vega box. it uses the pitman arm from a large MANUAL steering box such as was on a Cosworth Vega or v6 v8 monza. I assume it uses the same centerlink as cosworth which is the ps centerlink. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/clp- ... e-EALw_wcB

The way I read the CPP catalog is that the CPP Vega p/s box uses the small Vega manual pitman arm. And with the small box, I would expect it to use the manual, small box centerlink, not the p/s centerlink.

I don't see any specs on what spline the CPP power box uses, but I'll take your word on it.
