Alternator location

Postby yfz450man » Mon Jul 20, 2020 9:32 pm

So my monza was originally a v6 and someone did a v8 swap prior to me, who ever did it looks like they did a decent job, it has the correct oil pan which is a huge bonus, correct Rad. Gauges all work do wiring seems correct here is the only thing that has me a bit puzzled where should the alternator be at I’ve seen some pictures of them kind of close to the center of the engine then I’ve seek them hanging out there off to the right side
It’s a non factory air car any help would be appreciated I’ll post a picture of how mine currently is sitting

Only other thing is the gas pedal cable I know it’s been discussed before but which one is the best to get rid of that 10 inch loop
Thank you

For 76-80 the alternator is mounted high and in the center right like that to make room for the AC compressor on the right. The air pump is also mounted high center left if equipped.

When the car is non-AC, the alternator is mounted to the passenger side using that set of long brackets that look like a hockey stick. I'm not sure where the air pump wound up on non-AC cars, if they had one.

I hate the center mounted accessories, throws off the balanced look of the engine.

Yeah, on an engine without the AC compressor I think it looks off-balance too. On an AC equipped car that also has power steering, I actually like the center mounted alternator in that case. It does block some of the view of the engine though.

What pulley was used on the crank on this one?
