Chuck, a report not much different from all the comments made by second and third owners, most of which were not well maintained by the original owner. I was a happy owner of a new 1972 Vega wagon. I did have a problem with the front fenders rusting from inside out but in two years had been driven over 60K miles. I enjoyed it so much that in '74 we bought a GT which accumulated another 70K miles with no issues. Neither of the two burned oil and the GT, with a few mods, consistently got 30+ MPG in the city and the low 40's on the highway during vacations.

GM did take some shortcuts but so did many of the owners.

Yup, they needed a little more care than "rode hard and put away wet".

Everyone I know who had owned a foreign car before buying a Vega never complained about the Vega. People who had owned a full sized, V8, domestic sedan before owning a Vega griped quite a bit. I loved the '73 I bought new and still do.
