How do I turn on the dome light

Postby 75_2+2 » Fri Aug 21, 2020 10:42 pm

Okay. I'm a dope. I've owned the car for 25 years and never had a dome light. Didn't want to destroy the old light cover that was on the car. Finally found a replacement cover (I'm slow and it wasn't a priority). Old cover disintegrated on removed (expected), but got a brand new base and light cover installed. Fresh light bulb.

I don't know how to turn on the dome light. Opening the door doesn't do it. Turning the headlight knob doesn't do it (how I adjust the brightness of the dash lights).

Am I missing something obvious?

It should come on with both scenarios you stated, door open or turning the headlight know all the way counter clockwise. If it doesn't work you have to do some electrical troubleshooting. You should have 12v at the bulb all the time and the door jam switch provides the ground.

Humm. Okay. I'll poke at it some. What you are saying makes sense. I can see that in my head. Thanks.

Like Clyde said when you turn the headlight switch fully counter clockwise till you feel it stop and then turn it a bit harder and you should feel it click and move a bit father CCW and that should be the dome light on all the time position.

I would think you would notice more things not working if it was the fuse, but it's always good to check.
