Transmission Noise

Postby dindin » Tue Nov 17, 2020 12:13 pm

I have a Cosworth Vega with saginaw transmission and hurst 4 speed shifter that I get a grinding noise when decelerating in 4th gear only coming from the transmission shifter bellhousing area

If I step on the clutch or put in neutral the noise is gone completely..it also goes away if I accelerate

it also does not make much noise at lower rpm or any other gear besides 4th..

I was thinking maybe it picking up some harmonics from changing out the factory shifter with a hurst because of the way its mounted directly on the transmission?

Anyone ever experience this?

Thanks Al

I bet you're right. I used a copper line on an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, and I could hear every noise that engine made. The shifter bolted directly to the trans could probably amplify the sounds even more.
