Honda brake booster

Postby kris0082 » Sun Sep 14, 2014 12:57 pm

I have read about people using a honda brake booster. I have a 75 monza 2+2 and I have looked at the honda booster and the honda booster has 4 bolts coming From the booster and the monza has 4 bolts coming from the fire wall. How do people run the honda booster ?

Don't know about the honda booster but here's my experience with other boosters. Did a hydraulic clutch so I needed a smaller booster.

I've run a mustang (late 80s early 90s-ish) booster which was about 6" dia with the mustang master with good results (except that hole I put in the booster drilling the firewall :cuss: )

Currently I'm using a universal booster from summit. Works great and fits a stock master, about 7" dia. Leaves just enough room for a clutch master cylinder.

Phill,

That's good to know (the 7" booster).
I had my eye on one (likely same one), but never bought it.
If I ever go hydraulic, I'll have to try it.

You have the Summit p/n by chance?
Any issue running out of vacuum?
Running a vac reservoir? Know your manifold vac @ idle?

Thanks,
Mike

I ran a Honda Prelude brake booster for over 17 years on my '72 Vega. I just mad a bracket that lined up with the Honda booster mounts and the Vega firewall to slightly angle the booster up and about 2 inches out.
I recently did a rear disk brake conversion and had to change the booster/master to a larger bore to increase fluid volume, otherwise I would still be running it.

This shot is from the wrong side, but you get an idea of the size
