New best time!

Postby SWT Racing » Tue Nov 14, 2006 10:20 pm

I finally got my junk bak to the strip after almost a full year. I was able to make four runs before the track (or my tires) wouldn't take the power. First three runs were baseline runs. Each pass was in the 6.30's at around 116, which is definitely slower than my normal 6.0's @ 120. Boost was a little lower than normal at 13 psi, perhaps due to the new plumbing at the wastegates. The true timing may be different as well due to a swap from a distributor to a crank trigger. The 60' times were off from the normal 1.45's as well. . .mostly in the 1.56 range.

Fourth pass, I connected the MSD boost controller with a mild curve that shifted my baseline boost curve up about 3.5 psi. Starting line boost was at 9.5 psi, which dropped the short times to a quick 1.38 on the little 26 x 8.5 slicks! The curve ramped up from there over a 3 second period to 16.5 psi, which netted a 5.85 @ 122. I let out on that pass a little early, but it was hard to tell if I was before or after the stripe. I tried adding a pound of boost across the board, but the car literally blew the tires off. I tried another pass with the same result. I then pulled the first portion of the curve back down to where it was, and the car blew the tires off again. Still a good outing though.

Who knw a 26 x 8.5 ET Drag vould take such power!

Do you have any video of the car, I would really like to see it in action?

Thanks man. Hopefully when I go out again in January, I'll get into the high 5.70's, which should put me easily into the 8's on a full 1/4 mile track, if it's not already.

We're planning a trip to Irwindale on Thursday (Nov.30) there's a guy I raced last time in a V-8 Luv truck (his 7.86 to my losing 7.87) that wants to hook up and do it again. Should be a fun night think you might bring that black rocket ship out for a few passes ? Thanks Dick

Probably not until the new year. I have been putting off some upgrades for too long now and need to save some cash. I am still running 1310 series u-joints and a crappy stock 9" center section, among other things. I need to drop over $1000 on rearend/driveshaft parts alone, and still should upgrade my fuel pump soon since it's just tabout at it's limit. The pump and filter will run just over $750. . .not to mention the custom made engine diaper I'll have to have made in a year or so. :(

Ha, always. Now I'm moved again from RI to SC, so I don't have the same pressure to try to sell it. Might as well finish it. When I put it this way:

"In the time I've owned it, I've graduated college - twice -, gotten married, had two kids, lived in 3 states, moved twice, and probably had a dozen jobs."

I think it's going to be around a while now.
