Found the new owner, he wasn't able to get the car registration in AZ ( they claimed the VIN was altered) so we found the hidden Vin and it matched and I have to go through the process of getting a duplicate title for him in NY. ( Car has changed hands a few times after I sold it and never titled in AZ. I only drove it in AZ with NY plates for a few months and bought a 77 Bonneville with A/C to daily drive a few months after we moved there.

That is the status of the car now.( It's just sitting)

Update: I tried to get a duplicate NY title but they only keep records for 10 years in NY so it has been 20 years since it was registered in NY.

Its up to the new owner in Arizona to get a new title there, but he now has the vin tag and the hidden vin to get one.

He will try when the pandemic is over since everything over there is appointment only.

Crazy story and life of a car. I’m getting back my 77 sunbird that I built in 1985 and sold in the 90’s. I was shocked that it’s still around. Worse for ware.

Thanks John, I told the previous owner to scrap it because he couldn't find anyone to buy it because he couldn't do work on it anymore due to medical issues.. He finally found someone to buy it and send him updates because he knew what it meant to us since we bought it brand new... and was our first brand new car. I looks like crap but its moving under its own power again after the last 7 or more years of not.

My parents bought a new 1980 Sunbird. A black notch with gold half vinyl top and GT wheels. We stopped at the AMC dealer before the Pontiac one. Things could have been totally different.
