Yeah, last I read, the big CAD engines weigh roughly the same as an all iron Small block Chevy. Now if you put an aluminum intake and headers on the CAD, then it will be a good bit less.

Well in that case I may think alittle harder about putting one of those big boys in a Monza. I thought they weighed about the same as a BBC. We rebuilt a 429 (not a 425) not too long ago at my last job. The guy doing the removal/reinstall pulled the heads and exhaust manifolds as one unit (why I don't know). He asked me for help putting them back on with the short block in the car. Them was heavy bitches.

The BBC isn't that bad. As a matter of fact, a BBC with Aluminum heads and intake weighs pretty darn close to an all iron small block. So anyone thinking the BBC would be too much weight for their car might want to reconsider!

Also, an all iron big-block coupled with the required weight saving mods to fit one in your car (manual brakes and manual steering with a vega box), the weight is about equal to what is in your car now.

No need for "big block springs". Just factory v8 monza springs work great!!!

My bag , looks like only 20 lbs heavier for the 472 - 500. Of course, 80 lbs lighter for the 368 - 425 engines ( vs SBC )

UPDATE! Finished the 2008 Summit ET Racing Series in 15TH place.( out of 26 Total 24 + 2 High School) Had the best of 11TH place early on. Made the cut ( top 17 in class) to go to the Division 7 Finals at Top Gun Raceway in Fallen , Nevada but chose not to got at this time due to it being a little too far.

2nd 425 held up great the last 4 races with no issues in the real HOT - humid racing months . Car is holding up good as well, better than I had hoped for. ( even the rearend!)

Just need some more seat time to get the reaction times pat down.

Next year the Division 7 Finals are at Josh's track ( Firebird) so if I make the cut..........I'll be there!

Best ET 13.88 in the cooler months ........... low to mid 14's in the hot months. Not bad for a stock 170 HP Cadillac ! Torque Rules!

UPDATE!

Well, 2009 racing season has started off last month on a bad note.

I'm in 2nd to LAST place, hit some oil or water at 3/4 track doing 80 mph during eliminations, went sideways , overreved and a rod is knocking. .

The car survived ( and so did my shorts!) but I have to pull the motor to change the crank and rod.

So the Monza is wounded and will be down for a couple of races.

UPDATE! Added a new crank and bearings , a Comp 270H cam, and ran a 13.74 at 99.45 MPH! It was 89* at the time so in cooler air it should run even quicker!

Nice work Doug, good to see the Monza is back where it beolongs. It looked soo lonely sitting there onh your concrete pad years back when I saw it in person (that is what the Road Hawk is doing at present, and for a while). Cheers!

Its been doing just that for the last 3 months, Bryan . Finally its back together and runnin....

With mild cam if you are using a th350 a TCI saturday night special converter may add some fun without being too loose. I use these as they seem more suited to my driving habits even my roller cammed 402bbc.

Another thing I have been toying with using a Northstar 4.6 or an Aurora 4.0 and even wondered about turboing them.

Thanks for the suggestion ( 3000 stall ?), cause the tranny needs a Ultrabell next season anyway. I also have an extra set of heads I'Il will start porting too. Doug in AZ
