Where did you find the Astre? You mentioned New England. Is that where you are located? Pretty sweet find considering everything is usually rusted out here.

Hey Ocelotzorz,
Nice Car & nice work !
Look's so much like mine I really dig it! :th:
HI WINDING MONZA
That makes 3 yellow 76 Astre's on this forum, counting mine.
My Astre is also a 76 notchback,my int.is the black & white "checker board style",
sorry I dont know the correct name.My car was totally complete & orig.
Auto,A/C etc.etc..& it's pretty much rust free!
But now I have the big mickey's under it,28.50x18.50
I'm building a 400 Ci SBC & a T 350, 9 in.rear
I found mine in a junk yard in Dallas Tx.actually sitting on top of another car!
It almost got crushed!!!!
Thank God the forklift driver didn't spear it through the window,
there was absolutely no damage to if from the junk yard,
it was there because of a minor bump in the frontend.
I traded a chevy turbo 350 tranny for it lol !!!!

Hey HI WINDING MONZA,post a pic of my car's twin,if ya would please.
Let's hear about more Astre's!
I know this thread is alittle old, but hey,I'm new here ! :th:
Just a hard core car guy
76 Astre,73 Vega GT,76 Vega GT
And a list of other's to long to write....t

Ocelotzorz,

That is a good looking Astre. If that is actually a German Capri engine it will have more power than the US 2.8 version. They are basically a good engine, even the American 2.8 in my son's 74 stang ran pretty decent.

Keep the pictures coming they look real good.

Nice to hear the engine runs well, most people do not beleive how well a nicly tuned V-6 will run in a 2500 lb car with the 1st gear in your T-5 it should pull well, be fun to drive, and get 20+ MPG. My Yellow Astre is a 77, But I really Like the 75-76 grills better, and prefere the Torque arm rear suspension of 76-77

sorry for bringing this thread back from the dead however i feel like it is time to start doing work to the car again but as a poor collage student progress is going to be slow. I dropped the axle and sandblasted the under body then epoxy primer to seal and black paint to finish. im glad i don't have to worry too much anymore about the floor rotting out on me.

i didn't get any pictures of the progress but here's what it looks like now.

But now it is time to start collecting parts for the s10 5 lug swap since they don't make practical 13 inch tires anymore. i found 26 spline axles from a 2 wheel drive s10 that should work now i just have to find everything from the front. I'm under the impression that i could use my existing master cylinder since it is a 76 ( i dont have power brakes). But what should my shopping list look like for the front?? what i have in mind so far is.
spindles
s10 ball joints
rotors calipers pads
ub ball joint sleeves

what about brake lines is there a way to use the ones i already have or do i have to go for new nova ones like v8monza.com tells me to do.

i just want to dive my astre ( taken before i painted the underbody.)
