Monza, Skyhawk, Starfire, Sunbird website

Postby fyrftr50 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 2:37 am

OK, so it isn't a real car but it certainly is a project, beleive me, it is a big one. Since I put my 80 Spyder back together years back (documented on my website http://monza.homestead.com/spyder.html so no point in rehashing it here) and my 79 Road Hawk sits patiently awaiting some cash I can justify spending on it, I guess my efforts and energies will go into redoing, adding to and improving my Monza (originally) website.

http://monza.homestead.com/monza.html

In the past couple months I have made some huge improvements, making most of the pages wider to accomodate the larger screens most of us have now. I've also added many new pages for various special edition cars as well as pages for special options and models. Heck, I've even changed the look of the main page, which I try and do from time to time, just to change things up occasionally.

Brian J. (stage169) has been kind enough to give me a large number of documents with various production figures for the Monza, Skyhawk and Starfire with hopes that more will come in due time. I know he has gone to great lengths and possibly cost, to acquire these documents with more to come, hopefully. These new facts have given me the push I needed to start working on my site again, and adding a lot of these figures so they can be made available to everyone, not just to him and I.

Anyways, I'll add post on here when i make up new pages or make significant changes to older ones.

For now, here are some of the more significant ones ...

Production numbers, yes , production numbers, with lots more to add to this list.

Interesting. I'll be over to check out the changes in a bit.

I have to make a thread about my website today...as there is only 6 more days to view what I put together at

www.geocities.com/marcos_monza_world/main.

In six days Free Geocities pages are gone for good. Meaning, my website is gone for good.

I was supposed to have 'monzaworld' up and running by this past summer, but I've been too busy.

I've just added a tonne of production numbers to the page i have for them.

I've got Monza numbers (except for 1975), Skyhawk (except 1978 & 79) and Starfire (all years). Still working on Sunbird. Not just basic total production numbers but breakdowns by RPO Codes ... yes, breakdowns by RPO Codes !!!!!!!!!

http://monza.homestead.com/Production.html

I have to say though, this undertaking is not to my credit, it must go to Brian Jackson (stage169), who tirelessly got these figures from GM Heritage and The Sloan Museum and he's still working on filling the blanks and getting Pontiac Sunbird numbers as well. Hopefully we'll have something for you shortly.

CHEERS!!!!!

Thanks for putting this together. Very good information

But, the Sunbird production totals don't match.
On the Sunbird options page, the total Sunbird production adds up to 449,543 = 52,031 + 55,398 + 86,789 + 97,770 + 157,555.
On the Second-GM H-body Production page, the total Sunbird production is shown as 523,911 = 52,031 + 55,398 + 86,789 + 97,770 + 187,979.
Since the problem is in the 1980 model year and rumor has it that the 1980 model year was extended, could that account for the 'missing' Sunbirds?

Yeah, I had noticed the 1980 totals are not adding up and the production numbers I have recently colated are short the 187,000 I have for 1980. But the production figures I do have include production to the END of September of 1980 and there are no production numbers for the 1981 model year, so it is possible that Sunbird production did not go into October of '80.

The 187 figure comes from the Standard catalogue of Pontiac whereas the 157 comes from these pages directly from Pontiac which is verified by adding up engine and tranny totals and these add up to the end of September as well (a whole month after normal production ceases). I am leaning heavily towards ignoring the figures from Standard cataloge and running with what came directly from GM.

Hey Doug
Yes, i have the 75-77 Astre numbers that came with the Sunbird stuff, which i will also put together in a file and post somewhere. Sunbird was the priority to my website but I will definitely post the Astre stuff too. Too bad we didn't get the earlier numbers, but that could still be in the offering.

I think you are correct that '73 is the Astre's first year, but only in Canada and didn't appear in the US till '75.

In the middle of December I got this answer back.

Brian,

I reviewed the 1981 Pontiac production records and they do not include the Sunbird.

fax: 586.276.0698

I know these reports were at least Monthly and I'm not sure if either Sloan or GM Heritage have any but the year end final reports. Last week I sent Christo another email asking for the 73, 74 Pontiac report and if they had a listing of the type of records they have. I guess he will be back to work Monday and I'll find out then.

But if you can think of anything please contact Christo to find out. From the very first items I purchased from them I've not been charged a penny for any of the other reports. Christo has gone out of his way to help with our project and answered a lot of emails and phone calls from me. He told me that they had received a ton of data from Pontiac and it was possible the option reports for the Sunbird were there. That took almost a year but we got them.

Marco I sent you a disk early in December to the address you gave me a year ago. Hope it showed up. Brian
