We didn't luck out this time. GM Heritage has the Pontiac reports for 73 & 74 but the Astre is not included.

Hi Brian,

I checked the production records for 1973 and 1974 and they do not include the Canadian-only Astre. I would suggest that you contact GM of Canada Vintage Vehicle Services. They may be able to assist you.

They are on the web at: http://vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html.

Best,

I know what GM Canada will say "we only research by VIN" but I might just fire them an email anyway.

I'm still going to see what there is for the 78 & 79 Buick info. I mentioned to Sloan that I might consider looking through their micro film for those years. From their description it basically contains the same info as the cowl tag. We certainly wouldn't have the data the option reports show but it is possible to get the total number of Roadhawks ect.... The film info is from each production plant so if you guys know for sure where the Skyhawk was built for these years that would help me.

I have a little new information and hopefully it may lead to more down the road. Sloan is going to let me go through their microfilm from the Lordstown plant for 78 & 79. I've been told I can record the info anyway I choose and that the information I find must be shared with them. Before I go I'll ask for a sample to be sure just what I'll be looking at. What I've been told is that the info is similar to the cowl tag so with that I should see all the Roadhawks and Designer Accent Skyhawks. Hopefully at least we will have the total numbers made for 79. 78 maybe a wash depending on what data is there. But if I can get pictures and the data shows up (never have tried to take a picture of a microfilm display) we'll have a ton of data on colors and interiors. I hope there is a little more data and that the picture thing will work.

I've emailed George Zapora and Vintage Vehicle Services has all the records on the 73 & 74 Pontiac Astre. George is probably dead tired of me  What the heck here is the email. The first one is from Feb. 09

George,

I'm hoping you can help with an explanation for these codes on the Car
Report for the SkyHawk in 1977. All SkyHawks for 1977 were produced in
Canada so I thought of you :) I know all the RPO codes and it appears
that groups of these were combined and given additional codes. Hopefully
there is a key to decoding these additional codes! I certainly appreciate
any help you can give me. Sloan said Buick donated the reports but gave
no info on the codes.

I just have to ask also if anyone there can shed some light on the SkyHawk
with the L77 engine? That car would be fun if the data is correct it was
the only 1977 SkyHawk made with a 350 V8 4bbl engine. WOW!

The second page show the codes I'm refering to. Thanks, Brian Jackson

Sorry Brian but those would be sales codes, no listing of what they mean,
They could refer to marketing programs or delivery schedules. No idea what
L77 is doing there, that is problem when someone gives you data that has
no meaning....

Hey George,

Well it is that time of year again for me to ask more questions. Would
you know if an Option Breakdown Report for the 1973 & 1974 Canadian built
and sold only Pontiac Astre exist? I had to ask the H body club members
are looking for this information since we got the Pontiac Option Reports
for the Astre and Sunbird from 1975 to 1980 from GM Heritage. They also
have 1973 & 1974 Pontiac reports but they do not include the Astre.

Second and last question (this email anyway) I know you have told me
research is only done by VIN number but is it possible to get general
information from your data base without using the VIN? I'm guessing all
the data you have has been transferred to a program that allows you to
complete the vehicle option information? I'm dreaming that with the model
and some options you could find the car? I don't want the VIN or any
other info that only the owner should have I'm just trying to add to the
history of these cars.

Keep all the cold air up there in Canada and I want your job when you
retire. Thank you, Brian Jackson

Brian, we have info on the Astre but it is on a per vin basis only sorry,
the fees are used to maintain the equipment, computers, rent and salaries,
we have to pay our own way. Happy Mew Year.

George, I don't expect something for nothing. As far as the Astre goes
seeing production option total information might get owners to buy the
Vehicle Option info from you.

If you could find the Skyhawk I'm interested in and give me the information
(except the VIN) I would pay the fee for that.

I think everybody should pay their own way =)

Brian

I'm still waiting to a response on the last email so maybe he is looking into it or maybe I'll never hear from him again :? He has been nice enough it just kills me to think of all the information they have yet they're not willing to show it any other way than what the are.

Maybe if he gets a few Astre requests he'll think twice? It jumped up last year to $70.00+ I would be curious to know how many Astre's he looks up in a year. I did order one for my red Hawk today.

Bri, I'll send you my cell phone number, you MUST fast forward that 78 microfilm to my vin, and tell me what you see!!!

I'm am soo drooling at this opportunity you have! If it's a jumble of numbers, call me and maybe we can get some or all of them figured out. How much for the whole microfilm?

I didn't even ask if it shows all the cars made or just the Buicks. I guess it makes more sense that it would be a complete record. I'll see what I can find out today and if it is there you'll get to see it. I don't actually get the film I have to go there to view it.

Thats what I thinking that its something your going to only be able to view there... I figure if you get there, and all you have is some confusing jumble of numbers give me a call and maybe we can get things figured out before you have to leave?

If it actually is every trim tag that would be super cool, but that would also mean some 300,000 tags to browse through? Awesome, but yikes.. speed reader training would come in handy here,lol..

Well they couldn't tell me for sure if it is just Buick's or not. She had a sheet that described the contents, order #, invoice #, VIN, color, trim and key info. According to her someone pulled all the film out of a dumpster there at Flint. She is guessing only Buick cars.

That would work having back up if I can't understand the numbers. I am concerned about the size/total also. I'm really hoping that one page on display shows a 100 cars or so. Then take a picture of it that can be read and go from there. I really hope that it is the complete Lordstown data. We will see.

I was at Sloan a couple days before Easter. No luck with the 77 Skyhawk info but I spent the rest of my time there on the 79 Skyhawks. I think my total for the 79 Road Hawk is correct but I did move quickly throught the film before I found the first trim code for the RH. I just sent an email today to Sloan asking if they would check the begining of the Skyhawks for me and if they can't when I go back I'll just check it then. The total number I counted is 1,745 and if I did miss any in the first 7,500 cars I'm sure it can't be very many.

I wanted to get pictures of the film on all the RH's on the registry but ran out of time. I kept them there to the very last minute and finished up the day writing down 1,300 VIN numbers. Bryan has a list of all the VIN numbers which doesn't really mean much except for the total number and that may still be in question.

Here is a sample and for the most part is easy enough to figure out. I've been told the NVI HRS stands for New Vehicle Inspection Hours and that was the time it took for the dealer to prep the car. PR LV I'm not sure about but was told maybe its a number for a price level? Could be a number the sales person was given for a range of acceptable offers?

The TRM code 815 is the Road Hawk interior for 79. Check out the invoice price on the second Road Hawk from the top! Brian

OK, I haven't done much lately, or in a long while, but life does get in the way.

Regardless, new page is on the Monza 2+2 Accent Stripe Kit

http://monza.homestead.com/accent.html

and a date is set for 2012 MonzaQue - Saturday, August 4.

It do at that.

That is a good picture of the Monza accent stripe. I've seen the add it uses the same pic with a camaro below the Monza.

You probably look through the same stuff I do but not to long ago I saw a cardboard showroom display for the Road Hawk. Thought it was cool.

Are CloneaQue's welcome :P I know they are I just couldn't resist... Good deal!

That is the same add I have (Monza/Camaro), you probably saw the one on ebay that I bought? I also bought a cardboard Road Hawk display poster, it isn't huge but it is a Road Hawk so it is now mine.

Did you see the 1977 Buick Announcement Meeting letter? Hawkman? Drives a gold Hawk car with a Hawk outfit and even flies on the back of a Hawk. Did I say Hawk? I wonder what kind of visual aids they were taking? :D

I couldn't buy it I just saved the pictures.

Maybe the same one, from AutoLit? I'm pretty sure a few of the RoadHawk displays have showed up.

The picture you have of the Designer Accent Skyhawk I've seen other shots on there also.
