the new "family" car 1973 sedan

Postby buckinbullock » Wed Oct 21, 2009 8:24 pm

hi, i am very new to the site, i just bought a 73 vega sedan, it has 16k with original everything. hell it came with its original bias ply-tires. it has some fender rust issues, but is otherwise super great. hell, it even came with the original order sheet. it even runs pretty good. the story behind the car is that it was bought locally, and driven for a couple years. it then sat until 2001 when the guy i bought it off of got it. his wife drove it until the heater core started leaking, in 2002. it then sat in a garage until i paid $750 for it. the plan is to restore the body this winter, and maybe do a motor swap. i have a 350 engine i built for racing a few years back, and i just picked up a nos setup, so who knows? how good are the 4 cyl engines? i am considering pulling it due to the fact its hard to get parts for, and i might be able to get some cash for it while it's still good. i don't know how to get pictures up, they all seem to be too big. i am not a computer savy guy.

all i can say is nice find. a 73 with 16,000 miles that's just broken in and for $750.00 and it runs reasonably well. that is a greeat deal in my opinion. good luck. if you can keep the v-8 under 400 hp you might be able to squeek by with some of the original drive train. any more that that and it's asta la by by to just about everything in the drive train. :) 8)

Welcome to a cool site. sounds like a good deal but you gotta post some pictures, bro. I've been told the 4 cyl are okay as long as you don't overheat them! As for the 350 that's what I went with, it was a fairly easy swap and ran and drove great until I played too much. Just put in a new rear end, so if you go with the 350, play nice or you'll need a new rear end or worse. Good Luck! keep us posted

buck, welcome aboard to a great H-body site,

Good job on an, obviously, great find. A V8 would be a real nice touch, especially a hottie.

we need pix, as always maybe this will help:

It's easy to resize pics....... just 5 or 6 clicks of the mouse.
Open pictures in MS Paint.... on most every PC.
1)Just right click the pic and click "Open with"
2)then "Paint"
You'll see the pic with a color palate and some symbols in the upper left corner.

3)Click on "Image" up at the top menu bar above the pic
4)Click on "Resize/Skew"
I reduce them down to 230-250 KB usually start with 50% reduction depending on initial size of pics.

5)You can check size by right clicking on the pic and select "properties" to see the size in KB.

"hell, it even came with the original order sheet"I believe fyrftr50 might be interested in this. They are trying to build a spread sheet of the H-bodies.

Keep up the good work, good luck, and post some pix

cheers jer

That is a good story! Nice project for sure. Have you gotten a chance to check out underneath the car?

Wow, how much more literature do you have that came with the car? I am trying to locate a copy of a Chevrolet Vega dealer Service Letter or Service Bulletin that advised the dealers how to "prep" the car for delivery and may have been a unique PDI (pre-delivery inspection) document. If you get a chance please post anything else you have it is fun to read and a bit of history too. Brian

underneath the car is really, really good. the rust is pretty much isolated to the fenders. the car was driven through a couple salty winters, and then sat. there is a little bit o rust on the cowl, but just on the surface. i just got my front patch panels for the front fenders yesterday, so its time to start cuttin. anyone looking for a pair of original bias-ply tires for a resto? actually, i have 4, but 2 are snows.
