Thanks,

Its my first restoration (limited to how much money i can spend obviously) and hot rodding so I am learning a lot! I love the cars and considering I want to be an engineer it makes sense to do what i love (was accepted to university yesterday!).

Engine is centered and the transmission is bolted down... one more mount modification before I pull the engine to weld-up the crack in my firewall/tunnel and reinstall for good!

The good news is I started spring break Friday...
The bad news is last monday I had my big toe nail removed due to an infection (over a year old because I'm stubborn) and then tomorrow I get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled! Not to mention the work I have to do over the break.

But on a side note
I feel like my grades are doing well, not to mention my Engineering Project is doing just as well! For engineering we need to do 2 projects in the last 2 semesters and for this one I am converting a 1971 BOA minibike (If anyone has any information on these I would appreciate it) into an electric bike controlled via micro-controller. Should be interesting because I have to research everything and learn everything independent from my class time. So far i've done a mild resto on the bike, bought 90% of my running electronics and am in the process of finding an onboard charging system so I can plug it into the wall/designing a current sensing circuit to prevent stalling out the electric motor (about 60-80amps of stall current) and frying all my electronics.
So this is definetly keeping me busy and away from the car  .... but its in the name of school

Hi BadBowtie,
before you get too caried away, i think you need to sraighten out the lower part of those forks.i believe they are suposed to be straight. looks like someone ran into a curb.

Believe it or not that is the way the bike was made! Looks very unstable to me, but I guess that was 1971 for you hahaah.

Hi BadBowtie,
that's interesting that the forks were designed that way. yes it looks unstable to me too. i once hit a curb with my 10spd bike and bent the forks back like that. steering was wierd until my uncle fixed it.

Hate to say it but I believe those forks are in fact bent my friend. :?

I learned to ride 40 years ago on a Taco Minibike and my forks looked just like that after I went straight into a wall. :bang:

My dad and uncle fixed the forks and I rode that minibike for a couple years before I got my first dirt bike. :th:

Even if they were meant to be like that I'd straighten them out a bit and make it more stable when riding any faster then 5 miles an hour. Good luck, and cheers ,

:bang: you guys have made a believer out of me... I thought something was up but I had been convinced otherwise, good thing my project is proof of concept of the electronics... so for now I could dismiss it and then get to it once the project is done. Yay... :?

So I've been pretty busy lately however I managed to get an old 1970's Hurst Roll/Control from a friend but the solenoid was sticking so I had to take everything off and re-install the old brake line, it kinda sucks but I got all it did was cost me an afternoon and two holes in my inner fender. I also ended up getting a deal on a new Hurst Roll/Control and Mallory Digital 6al (should be in on Friday).

Since I'm quite familiar with electronics I made a visual schematic for my setup. My plan is to have a three way switch with ON-OFF-(ON) (temp toggle).
-When the switch is selected to the ON position it will engage the Roll/Control Solenoid, this will be my burnout box setting.
-When the switch is toggled to the (ON) position (temp toggle) AND the clutch is fully depressed the Roll/Control Solenoid will engage and the relay will lock the power to the clutch pedal. The Roll/Control will then release when I let off the clutch (this would also work with a 2 step unit) and will serve as my launch setting.
-The kill switched will be used to prevent accidental activation while street driving.

Sunday I learn't how to weld (without gas on a mig), turns out I can weld fairly decently but I had a hard time welding upside down/in the ridges of the transmission tunnel that wasn't properly cleaned but I got the job done. It was a pretty steep learning curve (learning to use patches rather than filling the opening with weld :bang: And setting my jeans on fire accidentally while welding) but I think I can now weld and just practicing will make it easier and more natural.
