MK-L 1396 is a typical German licence.

MK stands for "Märkischer Kreis" (an area near Düsseldorf).
Then you always got 1 or 2 letters and 1 to 4 numbers.

This is an older version from before 2001.
One of the stickers is the official government sticker to make the licence official- the other one is the date for the next technical inspection.

This is a licence plate for the rear of the car. The front plates showed the date for the next smog inspection.

Thanks for the information! My father was surprised to hear. Thanks for your help :th:

Got the rear seats/belts, carpet and panels in, a quick re-spray with SEM vinyl paint did wonders.
I've also got the small piece of carpet for the back of the seat too. Coming together nicely now!

Pulled the car out of the garage and got it running today, sounds wicked (open header)!! But I still have to wire up all my gauges, re-bleed the clutch, wire up a throttle linkage and get the rest of the interior back in before I get to go for a drive. I took a video of the car running but it didn't turn out that well. Posting pics of my gauge cluster almost done and the engine compartment wired up (needs to be cleaned up and re-routed in some places). Good news is the car fired up first crank without hesitation, ran smoothly and sounded healthy (been sitting for two years), downside is my header paint bubbled up and fried on half my tubes, but that I can live with for now.

edit:
Posted the video anyways http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWyQOdwnYHE, going to have to pull the car out just to get a good video

Time for a bit of an update now that I'm done school, been working really hard to get this project on the road, interior is 80% done with just gauges and a bit of wiring left. Fixed the clutch problem and checked everything over and before i knew it I had driven the car up our driveway and was inside plating it (online). MInd you the car is open headers so I didnt go far but just up and down the road. Had my neighbor join me on a few little runs around the block (vids to come).

I've got some rubbing in the rear quarters and a bit in the front too, the car needs an alignment and a double check to make sure the rear end is squared (while checking everything else).

What can I say I cant wipe the grin off my face after cruising open header in my neighborhood (and still after a 8 hour shift at the bar). I didnt get a video of my final runs in the car where i just eased into it in 1st gear and the car broke loose and the other time where i eased into second (slower) and just pulled away like nothing!!!! Im super excited and not so worried about all the work that I have left.

BUT nothing beats my dad taking the car down the road for a whole 30 seconds, he eases into gear and then drops it leaving my place sideways and smoke just poring off the back end as the car (open header) was hitting 5500 (my guesss) and on the way back the look of the front end just jump up (not off the ground or anything obviously) when he nailed it again!!!! Couldn't be happier and I cant wait to get the car running with an exhaust and gauges mounted. Here are some pictures and maybe some videos on youtube over the weekend.

Good job! It is a great feeling to go for that first drive knowing all you have done. I know that feeling well! :D
Any one can restore a car but, it takes a real man to cut one up.

Thanks!
They are camaro rims 15"x7" and im running 235/60/15 in the back (and its rubbing when i turn or hit a bump) and in the front 215/60/15 and i need an alignment so they rub just a bit near full lock.

Definitely feels great and I couldn't have figured it out with out this forum!!

Went from 4 cylinder with a slushbox and 13" wheels/stock drivetrain to:
15" wheels with s10 front balljoints/brakes/spindles up front and ford 9" drilled chevy out back
350sbc, muncie M21 with hydraulic clutch
all new brake lines and master
Should be one bulletproof ride!

I've got lots of little bugs to work out but considering I've done the entire drive line and interior I'm extremely happy everything worked together!! Just need to make some time to get those gauges installed and get the exhaust done!
