Getting closer *knock on wood*, intake fit properly and there weren't many issues bolting everything together that I had ready. A lot of little details to get done before I can run the engine again but everything in the picture is bolted on and ready to go. The engine is looking like a BIG-smallblock

Looks nice dude except for the closed off coolant port. Maybe a 1/2" plug instead? 8)

 Good eyes, its a temporary fix until I get a fitting for the water pump and hose to connect the heater core. We tried removing the fitting from the intake but its been there for so long we risked breaking the fitting or worse the intake. I was also thinking of putting a small ball valve to cut circulation incase the heater core is leaky/stop heat circulation in the cabin.

I was thinking that may be the case, ya need heat if even just to defog the windshield at times. Good stuff, looking forward to the engine run video!

Its going well! Got the fuel lines and water neck all finished up, working on the throttle cable mechanism now. As it turns out my pedal isnt getting more than 50% travel because of the carpet being so thick, never noticed on the old edelbrock because of where I had it mounted on the linkage. So now I'm trying to find a way to space the pedal 1/2" or more, going to look for longer bolts this afternoon. Once thats done I need to run/cut distributor wires and change oil before I fire it up.

Also vented my gas cap since I'm using the vent line as a return system, had my tank build up with pressure and "vent" all over the floor earlier this spring because I had the engine compartment side disconnected.

When I do get it running I will hopefully be recording it with my camera / finishing the hood to get it on the road, I've never not had my car on the road so late in the season but I'm pretty busy lately.

Good news! Finally had some time to do the wires, change the oil (drop the driver side headers) and fill it up with coolant.

Spend most of the day fiddling with that and then I eventually got to checking for fuel leaks by priming the system, I have one bad fitting but we decided to try and fire up the engine anyways.
After trying to start the engine it would turn over but I had issues with the needle/seat as well as the squirters. I'm pretty new to holley's so it took me a while but I re-adjusted the float level and unstuck the needles under the squirters and everything started pumping properly. FINALLY the car starts up, difficult to keep idling so we suspect there is something else not working well but we were able to hold/rpm and try to adjust the timing. However in the process of adjusting the timing and trying to hold the throttle we got a massive backfire, figuring it was just timing we tried another few times and finally got the same result... It was only after we stopped that I noticed the following:

Now I need to order new gaskets (going to buy more than one) pull the lid off and take apart the primary on both sides to check the power valves.
Today wasnt a total loss, at least I got to hear the car start up again, albeit for a short time.

Took apart both carbs and blew air through every passage, the idle circuits in the main body had some debris which makes sense as to why it wasn't idling/breaking up. Tested both carbs on another engine individually and they both fired up and idled immediately. Now I'm waiting on the intake gaskets before I start putting everything back together. Hopefully things turn out better this time!

Got the car running, starts and idles great. I have a very loud whistle/whine from one of the two carbs, since it doesnt go away with RPM I think its the carb base or throttle shaft. Either way I will need to take the carb off and check it out sometime. Until I finish the hood/fix the whine I wont be taking it out for a test drive but im pretty stoked to have the car move under its own power again!!

Turns out the "whistle/howl" was a leak on the lid of the intake from a warp, I re-sealed it and have it all back together now. Car has a bit of a rough/high idle so I will be doing some tuning, id like to get some type of carb tuning hat to set each carb identically, I have a little bit of a surge probably due to one being richer than the other. Since the engine is all buttoned up now I've started working on the hood again, finished up the inside and painted it black. I will be color match painting the topside soon, it wont be perfect since the hood needs a bit of body work but it should match the rest of my car, both in color and in dings

I didn't want to take the car out before I got the hood painted and on the car, but the can of matched paint I got made up was for a 1980 color code 51, which is COMPLETELY different, I told the guy at the counter but he didn't listen. Long story short I got a refund and the hood is sanded back down a layer and is waiting for paint which I'll get this week.

I've been working on the intake and I've got it fairly well tuned for idle, synchronizing the carbs was a bit of a pain however the linkage has a bit of play in it keeping it from being dead on. Tired of filling the car up with a jerry can I decided to go down the road and get fresh gas, hoodless  I sure got some weird looks at the pump.

I recorded the drive so I could listen over to see how the cars are running. Here is a little exert of some part throttle driving and when I eased into full throttle, I haven't yet sealed up my slip tube headers so there was a little backfiring off throttle. Once I get the hood back on I'll take it out and run someplace more open and really see how the engine runs.
