New guy with a time machine panel wagon

Postby BlackShadow » Sat Feb 05, 2011 9:52 pm

Hey guys I'm new here and just bought my first Vega this morning. I have wanted this car since I as 14 back in 86. It was kind of famous around my hometown and was one of the true street machines back then. It has a 327 with dual 4s and nitrous. I hadn't seen it since a cruise night in 91. I tracked it down this summer and convinced the owner to part with it. It has been partially dismantled and in storage since the mid 90s, so its pretty much an 80s time capsule. I'm trying to decide whether to tub it and go pro street or leave it as a period correct street machine. Either way the paint is staying how it is. Thanks for having me guys.

Restore it to period perfection. It looks great and straight out of the 70's/80's!

Leave it alone! Get a pair of velocity stacks & you'll be all set. :th: My Two Cents, Lorne

Thats what the guy had on it back in the day. There's a nice hole in th hood for them. Yeah I really like the retro look of it and can't bring myself to cut it up. I think I will just notch the floor slightly and put the ladder bars on that came with it in the spare tire hole. The rear suspension is so awful right now I can't even make it move when I jump on the back of it. I want it to hook up a bit anyway.

What ever you do post some detailed pics as it is to document what was!

Wish I could find something like that down here. Sorta did with Little Buddy and all the murals painted in the 80'S!

Don't cut it. Buy a cheap rusty one for that.
This thing is WAY to sweet to cut up.

That's there destiny -- in their little Vega DNA.

A guys signature around here goes "Anyone can buy a car ... but it takes a real man to cut one up"

Your first thought (I think) is right:
Wheel tubs......narrow the rear to tuck the tires in .......and
lower* front and rear about 4 inches............

You can get more ground clearance with some Stock/hi-performance
exhaust manifolds (350 SBC 1-ton duallies i think have good flow design) and
run 2" exhaust to muffler or side pipes.
Motion Vegas had side pipes. Cool ride :D
Future car will look like this guy's cool Pro-Street Vega.
