swain tech also does some good coating work and uses white

everything is looking great so far !!!

Thanks.
I believe that is the main reason they apply the silver ceramic as a base before laying down the white. Two bake cycles seem to do the
job according to Mike.
Also, we will run the motor on the dyno before putting it in the car. Not sure if that will make a difference, but e.g.t's and a/f ratios will be set
within specs at that time.

Most coaters recommend breaking an engine in with old headers or manifolds , 2 & 4 on the old 71 turned cherry red while breaking it in , glad the headers hadn"t been to Jet Hot yet .
Love the Wagon , your headers look nice , got me thinkin that would be the way to do my collectors .

the white usually tends to stay , and isnt white the color that was used on those headers way back when ?

break in was primarily from the motor being new and tight , the 20-30 minute cam break in , then setting the timing and carb idle mixture , and jetting , usually has the egt way outta wack and glowing tubes arent good tell the coating is baked in

dyno break in with another set of headers is good idea , and i wish i had one i could break my motor in with

Yes. White was the color of choice back then. I remember some of my dads cars having white headers.
Can't really say for sure when it will be finished. Maybe by summer. It all depends on how much time I can spend on it.

Got some experience yesterday measuring for push rod length. I already had a set of new, Morel lifters and the seat height was around .900 higher than a standard lifter. It was very educational seeing how slight changes in push rod length will change the travel pattern and distance across the valve tip.
After they come in, all that will remain will be installing the timing cover and oil pan, cleaning up and installing the tunnel ram and then it's dyno time.

I started by cutting out the opening for the entire unit. Then I cut out the center of the core support and welded on two tabs to each side of the piece I cut out. This will do two things. It will allow me to remove the rad. without taking the nose of the car apart and it will also let the big block go in a little easier when I start final assembly.
Next I fabbed the bottom channel for the rad. to set in. I was going to weld it in, but decided to make it removable. After getting the rad. set into the car I trimmed the top core support piece to form to the top of the rad. Next I fabbed the top channel. That piece was then welded to the removable core support piece.
I hope this description makes sense, but if not, maybe the pictures will.

Do you think you have enough radiator? I'm getting ready to order one for mine and was looking at some universal Griffin rads - 24x16, 26x16 and 27x15. May i ask what a custom job cost?

Thank you.
The plan is to start back on it after this weekend. We've been slaving away trying to get a customers car out the door.
