73' "junk yard dog" project

Postby overkillrc » Sat Sep 01, 2012 3:06 pm

a buddy of mine has a 73' he has raced and street driven for years has gone a best of 11.80. we are gonna try and run it october 6th in a local heads up series we have here. it has a 7.5" rear end in it now he has wanted to put a 9" in it for a while but just hasn't had time. well, were making time now as a transbrake will kill that 7.5 not doubt.

here is what were starting with.

That's an interesting rear suspension configuration; I've never seen an extra pair of triangulated rear lower control arms.

Hi,
I wonder how well that would work for a street setup or might there be too much tention for twisting? i can see how you may be able to eliminate the panhard bar, at least for straight ahead running.

yea he said he knows it's binding a little in turns but couldn't use a panhard so that was his fix. i'm gonna make a similar setup but use heim joints which should eliminate any bind. he's been running it that way for probably 15 years or better

Is that supposed to be a torque arm setup? I can't see what would keep it from rotating under, unless the torque arm is missing. Right now it looks like the shocks are keeping it from dropping out. Very interesting indeed.

the car is legal to go 10.0's and i have little doubt we can go beyond that but he doesn't want to put a cage in this car (and i don't blame him) the class were gonna race is a 9.30ish class (the class record is an 8.80 something) so we will have our work cut out for us but what the heck right?

he has one in there that he built himself built out of 1/4" X 2" strap. he is a fabricator as well so all the work on the car so far he has done himself. he does more engine work these days, he send most fab stuff my way.
