Tribute build

Postby Fasterthansome » Sat Mar 16, 2013 10:00 am

I know, I know, its not a H body. But this is my most recent project and I feel the need to share.
The short story is, this is my little brothers car that sat in storage for a few years after he had a accident. He was in the process of a gathering parts for a comlete redo when he was hit with Cancer. I brought the car home after our last visit in the hopes of finishing the project and building a ride that would make him say wow.

I edited original post since the story was depressing.

This is how I found the car.
On the shelves i found a pile of new parts, headlights front bumper windshield and door trim, carpet, door locks and handles a new transmission and torque converter, battery box and wiring kit, MSD ignition, electric fan and other parts.
There was also a tool box with tools in it that I decided would be used on the build.

The car was originally light crystal blue metallic, which it seems is rare on mustangs, something like only 112 fox bodies were painted that color.

I got the car home and put it in the garage, after some time I started to develop a plan of attack. After looking through the performance parts he accumulated and conversations I decided it had to be a HOT ROD something fast and fun.
And it had to be clean enough to pull into a show or cruise without embarassment.

So I decided to pull it all apart and start with cleaning it up.

Filling holes and smoothing engine bay was first.

I also decided to go with a Donathen tubular Moly front bumper while I was cleaning up the front end and lose a little weight.

I spent a few months debating what color to paint the car and looking at thousands of Mustang pics trying to find something a bit different for a Mustang, if thats possible. I saw a Honda CRV at the dealership on a cloudy day and when the sun poked through it went from olive drab to pop :D So Green tea metallic was the choice.

Suspension was later removed and inner fender side also painted along with the inside of front fenders.

Got the paint and body work done then put the car in the gargage where it sat while I accumulated the parts needed for the build.

Man, sorry to hear the story. I can see it causes you great pain. Hopefully finishing the car will ease the pain.

I love Fox bodies, had 6 or 7 throught the years. Funny thing is i'm talking to a guy about getting his, it's a white coupe with an auto which is killing him as far as potential buyers but is just what i want.

Looking forward to the rest of the pics.

After the painbt was done I moved on to subframe connectors. I wanted under floor style connectors and had to look at several brands before I found something I liked. Maximum motorsports full length is what I chose. Then it was time to get rid of the front suspension.

Image

Pitched the factory k member and suspension and went all TeamZ in the front.

Image

Went with Strange 10 way adjustable.

Flaming river manual rack with UPR bumpsteer kit.

Flaming river steering shaft/joints.
Image

TeamZ caster camber plates.

Then it was on to the rear suspension...

Image
I chose to go with UPR Xtreme for the rear suspension and dealing with them was a pleasure.
Image

Anti roll bar installed and went with Strange 10 way shocks in back also.
Image

Upgraded the 8.8 with Strange axles and spool with 3.55 gears and Ultimate cover.
Image

Decided to keep rear drums for now and went with Ranger 5 lug drums.
