Hi all,
The day has finally arrived, "Project Ben" is coming to a close, the only thing left to do is a new hood pin latch assembly and two new door sill plates to cover the carpet edge. The very same flat bed that picked up the Astre, delivered it to my house this morning. After unloading it and getting the driver squared away, I stood back for a moment in awe. I opened the door sat behind the wheel and fired it up. I let the engine run for a few minutes and then backed it in the street. My heart pounded in my chest as I put it in gear, all I can can say there was a roar and lots of smoke. After several burnouts, I drove in my garage, shut it down and got out. I don't think you could have beat the smile off my face with a square top shovel.
I think I know now how my friend Ben would have felt
During the final stages of the build the thought crossed my mind to speak with a magazine editor about the car and give him the whole story, perhaps I was prompted by another poster on this site or the writing was on the wall all the time and I just didn't see it. The editor was very much interested in the story and has visited this site, he was very impressed to say the least. I have a photographer lined up for the weekend and hopefully weather will permit, when it will appear in a magazine is entirely up to the editor.
I will send you all more updates and will post some decent car completion photos in the days to come.
Best Regards to all
D

Beautiful car and story. Your Astre is well worthy of a magazine feature. Please keep us updated on how it goes.

Please keep us updated, this is one of my all time favorite cars, such a fabulous job on the body mods. Very tastefull and down right sharp! Plus the story behind it just makes you wish that 1 of your own friends would do something like this if you were gone suddenly, my hats off to you, you are a true friend! :th:

Thanks very much all for the kind words,
It's been a busy week with the car, much going on. I'm still waiting on aluminum door sills, billet hood pins and another line lock from Summit as the new one I have is faulty. The last thing on the list is the wiper motor, this needs to be engineered, I'm pretty confident my friend John can make short work of that, given the fact that he built the whole car himself. I've attached a few more pictures so you all can see what it looks like outside. Note, the 2002 Camaro style exhaust tips were moved away from the body as seen in the original picture. Billet indicator lights installed in the dash panel.
I'll give another update in the days to come, hopefully some real good news to share with everyone.
Thanks
D

I forgot to mention, my Buddy painted the tops of the doors satin black, looks much better as it ties in with the rear side windows.

anther 30 cm's of snow on the way, enough to make a guy want to haul ass and move to a warmer climate. It sucks when you have to wait six months to squeel tires and burn a tank of fuel. Time for dreaming, polishing and working on my other ride

Thanks Zeke,
2002 camaro style tips by Magnaflow
The awesome sick sound coming from the ass end via the mandrel bent pipe & Flow Master 40 mufflers is even better. John Best out did himself on that one-of fully functional custom job. It was all tack welded on the car, piece by piece, taken off, welded up and then painted with high heat paint for cosmetic purposes. A balance pipe was also installed in front of the mufflers for correct pulse

Thanks Harry,
I've been out of the loop for a while been away working, got a call this morning from a guy in California, also seen it on the online CHRM e-mag who said he makes plaques and wondered if I was interested.
I haven't seen the in print magazine yet, still waiting for the mailman to drop it off but the write up for the e-mag is on a pdf and also references the H-body forum. I will try to attach it, not sure if it works.
