A good thread here with some ideas: split bumpers

I think a few here have used the Camaro bumpers. For a Vega they are long and several inches extend over the grille. I prefer to have them stop before the grille like they do for the Camaro. They are not a direct bolt on. I hear that a piece of strap iron works to relocate a hole to bolt them on though.



Some people have sectioned them and then re-chrome. I am not sure if I want to invest in a set of camaro bumpers, cut, weld and re-chrome. That is a size-able investment.

I have heard that two Vega bumpers cut and welded , then re-chromed to make Vega split bumpers. Hard to find one bumper , let alone two.

Then you have the cut and flat cap and rechrome. Or cut and leave it. With a nice finished edge it does not look bad:



That is where mine was.



I have added some caps to mine. Not flat , but kind of rounded. I am not sure yet quite what I want it to end up with. These will suffice until I find the final solution.

August progress...



Right fender not as bad as expected

A slow month for the Body Factory meant some good progress on the Vega...

Hood , quarter window panels, front fenders, doors, valances all ready to go.



Passenger side side damage ended at the rear wheel. Sadly the dent pull holes drilled went all the way through the inner fender and led to water intrusion and quite a bit of rust. Lots of patch panels fabbed.



Drivers side not as bad. A little rust and a few dings.

I have a couple of old front bumpers that could be made into split bumpers, like I posted you take the left cut and weld onto the right and vice versa. If you can cut and weld I could rough cut them long and then you assemble them, easy to ship that way. Where are you located at?

Yours is the best looking that I have seen.
I am about as far away from you as it gets. Oregon. Well eastern Oregon so I could be a little farther

Ya, patch panels can be time consuming. I have (had) a few on my Wagon. Oddly enough it makes you more proud of you're paint job because i't's what people can't see. The work, the hours, the frustration.

Last quarter smoothed out. Panels got color.

Next I air brush on the real thing after a cure and wet sand.

Love the color. And so true the paint work shows everything so anyone who has done good bodywork knows the hours of work and at times frustration it takes to get it right. Looks really nice. I'm starting a monza project soon and it will be blue as well but a much darker blue as it's going the factory colour as it will be a bone stock build other than the tires and wheels which I will have the stock wheels for it.
