Who has done an LS/6spd Swap

Postby 1100kaw2 » Fri Feb 12, 2016 12:08 pm

I know there is a hand full of us LS swappers on here.
I would like to know who has done the 6spd swap on an Early Vega.
My 5spd version is done, but I ran across a 6spd. Trying to decide if I want to back track and stick it in this car, or save it?
Curious how much more cutting I will need to do.
Yell out if you have pics and info in your project build posts and I'll look thru em.
Thanks
Darrell

I have an LT1 6 speed in my 72 Vega mated to my TPI motor. I was able to get it to fit without any cutting, but there was a fair amount of "reshaping" of the tunnel with a hammer :D
I also used a scissor jack to expand the tunnel as well.
Here is a link with some pictures.

I'm not far enough along to comment. I keep running into setbacks! I kinda wish I would have used the T5 that was in the 2000 blazer I parted out.
I would only switch to the t56 if you are afraid you will hurt the T5.

Thanks for the input. A lot of good stuff.
I honestly prob wont swap it for the T56, just curious how bad it might be. My tunnel is already modified so the bigger trans probably wouldn't fight me too much.
As far as the T-5 goes, Its a World Class model and it has had some goodies done to it as well. I hope my stock 290ish hp wont kill it with non hooking street tires.

By the way Tim. That Suzuki Console is the coolest little set up I 've seen for these Vegas. I bet you had console before you re-located the E brake :D
