Finally painted the "Z28" Wagon...still more to come

Postby AMeZo RaCiNG » Sat Apr 02, 2016 9:24 pm

Finally got around to painting My 1971 Vega Kammback. I'm roughly modeling it after a 1979 Camaro Z28 so I still have to order and install the decals after it gets wet sanded and buffed out. Hopefully within the next 2-4 weeks. Limo tinted windows, and Harley Davidson stickers strategically placed on the side and rear windows and new rear smaller 235/60/15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's should round out My exterior mods. Loving this Z28 Wagon!!!  :th:

Looks nice
I think the tints will make it look great.
Will you be putting the chrome trim rings on the rims.

Thanx Tom. Chrome is actually the enemy with this build. I have them off now to be prepped for paint. Im fighting Myself about painting the inside of the radiator black because I know black attracts heat and I'm trying to stay away from under hood/coolent temp heat as much as possible. Not sure if it will make a difference but I'm almost positive the sinister black theme will win. The center caps also.

Looks good. What size tires are you running F & R? I am using the same wheels.
Thanks,
Bruce

I started with 225/70/r15 front and rear and the front rubbed so bad it bent the front fender and wouldn't allow Me to get a full turn lock to lock. I switched to 225/60/r15 and it's perfect for the front to turn fully lock to lock even with the Hooker comp headers coming out the fender well. The rear is still 225/70/r15 and even tho they don't rub I'm trying to burn em up so I can go to a 235/60/r15 size so it can be even. https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc helped Me a lot compare tire/rim sizes. The 17 inch version should fit without too much "persuasion" :burn:

Thank you, good starting point for me. Turns out when I bought my used rims they had 2 or 3 different size tires on them. Okay since we were just pushing it around in the shop. My mechanic bought 4 used of the same size, but I think I can go bigger than he did.
Hope mine looks as good as yours when I'm done.

You have a nice Wagon with some great ideas, I'm sure U will be ok lol. I visited Your project journal and I likee. I think I could have Maybe even fit a 235/60/r15 in the front without too much fuss for a bigger footprint during cornering so I'll maybe try that next go round. I have Mickey Thompson #3756r(ET Street, 27 x 10.50R15) picked out for the rear drag radial that I'll use when I go to the track for My NA 11.99 1/4 mile time goal. Should fit. Thanx for the compliment.
