Hey, This club should be called the Towne Coupe Club. I noticed 6 people that have posted that have one. Including you Thomas. (any progress on yours?) Tom C.

Hey Tom,
As a matter of fact I am making a
little
progress. I removed the front bumper
and
the air dam I had on it and am building
an air dam
that covers the whole front
under my 1979 Starfire
nose. I also got
that broken grille replaced (thanks
to Ken Snyder)
after all this time. Its coming
slowly.
Hows the Mirage holding up?

Thomas

Thomas, Sounds good about the grill and air
dam....I replaced the firewall clutch cable bracket with a
steel one. That took me about a month. Replaced a
4"strip that was gone on the rear flare. I have the
pieces for the correct air cleaner so its going to have
fresh air through the fender well. Working on replacing
the holddown piece for the visor(that's a pain, the
spring is held on by a clip I don't know how I'm going
to get it back on, I have to compress the spring to
get it on). Have yet to replace the alt. bracket. As
you can see I'm going at a snails pace. I'm running
it about every 2 weeks----You asked, ha ha ~~~~~~
Tom

Tom C.,
That could be a novel idea, most of
the people on GMHbody have the hatchbacks. The town
coupes are not as common, especially with the opera
window and top to match. Actually I think that the coupe
with the large window is just called a sedan. We just
need to talk more on this page.

Garrett,
Yours looks good with the white top
and all. Mine is yellow, and will get a white top
before I am done. I just have a 79 V6 with 4 speed in my
75 TC. It was a surprise when I put the engine in,
the drive train on the 4 banger was too long, so had
to get all from the 79. I notched my crossmember and
had to rebuild the shifter rods extensively. It is
fun to drive as the 6 is not stock. Right now I am
working on some ground effects, and have the sunbird(TA
style) rear spoiler on it. I have the GT style steering
wheel, and it has a black interior. I also have 7" X 13
slotted dish mags on the rear. Will have to find some 6"
ones for the front. Enjoy driving and have
fun.
Dick

Isn't the Towne Coupe also called a Notchback?

I dont know if GM called it one but it could
be considered one. You should get one Tom,
you know you want to work on another car....

Yes, the Town Coupe is a notch back, but all
notchbacks are not Town Coupes. The TC has the smaller
"opera window", while the notchback(sedan) has a larger
rear side window, one you can actually see out of. If,
that is, you have somebody small enough to sit in the
back seat!!!

<<<you should get one Tom, you know you
want to work on another car>>> Yea, like I
need a hole in the...(how does that saying go?). I'd
take one if everything has been replaced. At least we
don't have to spend $299+ for an alternator or have a
computer controlled car(except for yours). But, I see new
cars broken down all the time. They must be hell to
work on and figure out..... How about a new subject?
Like gas riots in Europe. I heard that in Briton they
pay $6 a gallon with $4+ of it in taxes! They've been
not talking much about it on the news. Could it
happen here?

Well, WHEN fuel prices reach that level
here,
people will get off their duffs and do
something.
Brits are heavily taxed on everything from
what I
understand. What a scam it is!!!!!
Is it still a Towne
Coupe with no opera window?
Talk about a blind
spot..

TOM,
Yes, Tom it is still a Town Coupe, but a modified version of one...and fun to drive with the huge blindspot. Hope he has good mirrors.

Dick,
No it still is a Chevrolet but its
a
Monza XL. I am putting
some other parts of GM
car designs I have
always liked in the past. I
like stock
restored GM cars and trucks but wanted

something different and something to promote
my
business.
