Duplicolor Perfect Match Color Cans

Postby HI WINDING MONZA » Fri Nov 21, 2014 8:14 pm

Anyone try this on flexable bumpers? Kind of worried it will crack..............( lacquer based ) Maybe okay with clear enamel topcoat ?

Thanks, Doug in P.R. 8)

Doug,

Interesting. They claim to have the Red (75) that I need for my bumpers. I'm going to see if I can locate it and try it rather than have some specially mixed. I am definitely going to put a few layers of clear over it.

I know absolutely nothing about paint, so I'm going to ask, can you put enamel over acrylic? The Perfect Match paint is acrylic.

OK, I've ordered the paint from Advance Auto for me to pick up tomorrow. I got a can of Red (75), one of Black (19), and one Clear Coat. Unfortunately, I don't know when it will be warm enough for me to use it. Damn winter. Might have to wait til next spring. I'll have to see if any of my Motor City Rockets have a place I can paint in.

Oh, and I got 35% off the paint by using checkout code MISSUM43. Killer.

Oh, and they can't ship the paint. In store pickup only. Luckily, Advance is only one mile from my house.

I used it before on steel bumpers with good results and used some leftover urethane clear over it.

I'll be trying it in a few weeks or so on the old JBody , just Pep Boys and Autozone have it here.

Enamel can go over anything , lacquer cant.

The Duplicolor Paint shop stuff in the quarts is Lacquer , I was hoping the Perfect Match wasnt.

Ok, so I picked up my paint today and it is a total fail for the red. The Perfect Match definitely isn't. Also it's metallic (or so the can claims).

Even color blind me can tell that those two reds are not the same. I don't think it's due to fading either (although I could be wrong). Very disappointed. It looks like the black is correct though.

I guess its off to the paint store for you, some do put it in spray cans for you.

I painted my hood on my Silverado before I left AZ and used PPG Omni enamel instead of base -clear and it matched perfectly. It is white so it was easy ,I guess. They just mixed it up from their formula and it was perfect.

Some paint stores have the machine that matches your faded paint ( if you have something you can take with you from the car)

I'll try Perfect Match on my passenger door jam that got crushed with some clear over it. If it looks close I'll use it, if not I'll get some Omni enamel for the quarters, bumpers and door spots.( did the Rustoleum roll on black 2 tone look on the top half)

Just a beater anyway.......................

Alan, it is Acrylic Lacquer ( Perfect Match ) . From what I read on the net, should be no problem with any top coat clear .
Enamal clear flexs more than Lacquer clear but is harder to buff out. Urethane clear is best but is $ 29 a spray can . My J's bumbers are not that flexable anyways . (thick)

I'll try it this week and let you know. My color is available BGM0398 ( GM 81" Bright Red " ) and was used over many years.

Well, I finally got around to get some Duplicolor for the old JBody. I have to say it matches the door jams pretty close but the top of the doors not that good ( lighter). After 23 years in the brutal sun down here, the red on the car has turned darker.

I top coated it with some Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel , just got to wetsand it with 1000 grit and polish.

Pics tomorrow................
