Holden Torana the Vega’s lost Sister?

Postby DarthVega » Tue Oct 27, 2020 3:10 am

Had this posted in general discussion but figured it’d fit here better, not many people would consider the Torana a sister to the Chevy and Pontiac twins we know and love, but I do consider the Torana the list Triplet of the family Holden is of the GM family, so that too lends to my thinking, maybe I’m a little upset with the Torana’s success and popularity vs my beloved Vega or the Astre, but nonetheless I wished Chevy gave us the options it gave Australia. Heard the AX9 SS version sold for $500,000!

It seems to me as almost an homologation of the Vega and the late 70’s Nova. Some parts will interchange like the A9X fender flares. You should also look into the opel Ascona...it’s based off the h-body platform also

Yes! I agree, the nose and tail looks Nova but body looks Vega, also will check the Opel, I’ve seen it mentioned when researching the Torana but haven’t looked into it much.

Yeah, it’s a nice read, I think a article I read somewhere said they hurried and half built the Vega, not giving it the proper attention hurt the dependability and durability of the car which resulted in the public’s disdain for it, I will see if I can find that article and post it if found, unless you are already in the know

Here it is,

https://www.autonews.com/article/201110 ... d-disaster

Maybe if they gave the Vega and Astre the attention and equipment that Holden gave the Torana, in the words of ScottieDTV “maybe they’d still be making Vegas today” (Speaking about Jegs’s Jega) But then again the failure on GM and Chevy’s part gives our car character, and gives us a chance to take advantage of the beautiful design, as many of us take discontinued Chevy parts to build what they should have built in the first place, my car personally will have all discontinued parts

S10 axles
283/302 engine
Cobalt SS seats
Monza rear axle housing
Monza AC
Monte Carlo SS badges

If I do start my 2nd build it will be AWD using parts from discontinued vehicles too
