missing wire on schematic

Postby Lespaul59 » Thu Apr 21, 2011 6:19 pm

Got two schematics online for 20 bucks and it looks like one is for a two headlight car and the other for a four headlight car. Neither of them show a tachometer wire from the distributor to the firewall. Pretty sure it's the dark brown wire. It's a spyder so it does have a tach.

Yes, I believe it is brown and runs from the distributor to a tach filter (capacitor) mounted on a bracket on the intake manifold. From there it runs to the tach.

Couldn't find any schematics on Best Of for 1979. Just wondering where you guys are tying your power wire that comes from the starter. Any of you just putting it on the back of the alternator? Also any pics of where the orange wire goes? My schematic says it's for the blower but I've got A.C. so it looks different cause the schematics don't mention that. It just shows a pic of the wire from the firewall going to a blower.

PM me with what you are wanting to know as I have 76, 79, 80, Monza GM wiring diagrams and will look up whatever you are looking for.
The Alternator should not be used as a junction, all power usage starts at the starter/battery cable.
I am using a Ford selonoid on the pass side fenderwell so all power usage starts there and the cable to the starter is only powered during cranking, plus it gives easy access to the fusable links.

Here's a link for the 79 schematic-
http://www.forums.h-body.org/download/file.php?id=5152
It shows all the main 12volt power wires(12ga. red) joined at the alternator, but usually the splice is about a foot away hidden in the harness. Merle's Ford solenoid suggestion is a good idea; it does make things more accessible.
These diagrams I posted way back when normally don't have any of the A/C wiring, but this one does.

Any idea where that orange one goes? Comes out of the firewall where the rest of the wires go but need to see what it's connected to.

Orange wire usually goes to the heater blower motor.
The wiring diagram does indeed show the orange wire attaching to the blower or, if you have A/C, the A/C blower relay.
