VIPER PARTS ON A MONZA?

Postby sparkknock » Thu Apr 19, 2012 10:21 am

core monza buick 632.jpg
Picked these viper gauges up years ago but look like a nightmare to wire,
Electrical has always been a pain for me but i dont even know where to begin?
Has anyone got a viper wire diagram or where i can find one?
How about spencerforhire, is this something that is going to a serious puzzle?
Each gauge has 4 wires, the tach has 5 and the speedo has 6.
At least i have the factory plugs that will make make the installation a bit easier.
4 of them will squeeze into the monza bezel but im going to make a aluminum replica bezel to space them out a little better.
OR,,,,just scrap the whole idea if its not gonna work without the rest of the dodge computer and harness that im lacking?
The electrical odometer is a real head scratcher? How the heck can this work on a 4 speed saginaw?
I may have to go buy a matching mechanical speedo if the even make one??
ANYWAYS IS THIS MORE TROUBLE THAN ITS WORTH?,,,
I have a 69 bronco that might be a better canidate using the big factory speedo and all the little viper gauges?
I guess i could just sell the speedo on ebay to someone who wants to put zero miles on their viper and take that cash and buy a matching speedo for my monza?

I would check the MOPAR sites (a body, b body only. Etc).... as they may be more savy on this type of swap. Would look cool to have those working in a Monza.

Cool cluster setup, but a few issues you will run into- The speedo will require an electronic sender that will screw onto the hole in the Saginaw tailshaft where the cable is now, BUT will no doubt have to be calibrated with a digital ratio adapter to be correct. Also the tach will only be correct if it receives a 2cyl. signal(the V-10 had 5 double coil packs), also fixable with a ratio converter. Also having the proper Chrysler senders for the other gauges would ensure they would reads properly. If I haven't scared you off yet and if you can tell me the year of Viper this mess of gauges is out of I can provide detailed wiring to make it all function; accuracy of readings will require a fair investment of time & money.

THANKS, THESE CAME OUT OF THE FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION (1992). I HAVE A FRIEND THAT WORKS FOR CHRYSLER AND THEY WOULD SCRAP A FEW VIPERS
NOW AND THEN AND WOULD HE GET A FEW PARTS BEFORE THEY WENT TO THE CRUSHER?
THESE GAUGES ALL HAVE PART #s SO IM THINK IF I DO A SEARCH ON MY PC THEY WOULD INTERCHANGE WITH SOME OTHER DODGE MODELS?
WHERE WOULD A GUY GET THESE DIGITAL RATIO ADAPTER OR RATIO CONVERTER AND HOW DO U KNOW ONE FROM ANOTHER OR THE ONE I NEED?
DO U THINK I WOULD BE BETTER OFF BUYING ANOTHER TACH AND SPEEDO AND SELL THESE 2?

I seriously doubt that they fit any other models; they actually look more like an aftermarket gauge, possibly marine in origin.
This is one of the speedo ratio adapters I've used:
http://www.abbott-tach.com/era.htm

and this is the tach divider/multiplier that I've also used:
http://www.bakerelectronix.com/products_tsd/

I used one of each in a swap project I got involved in a couple of years ago with 1995 Camaro Z/28 that had a GM Performance LS7 crate motor and a Corvette 6-speed.
This thing was stupid fast and I had a blast taking it out on repeated test drives to do the calibration. :D
