Little help needed...no high speed on blower fan!

Postby duckblaster67 » Sat Mar 15, 2014 11:48 pm

Tackled a heater control problem this weekend while it was 1/2 way nice out. The fan only had 1 speed and it put out heat all the time! I unplugged the resistor on the AC housing and found the terminals were rusty. I cleaned them up with a file and plugged it back in... BAM, all speeds worked but high! What am I missing here? Pics would be great if you have them to solve this. I'm a visual guide of guy! Also, I found that the "heat all the time" problem was the fresh air door. I opened it manually, had my son move the controller to HOT and it pulled it closed again. I had him move the controller back to COLD and it didn't move, so I had to open it manually again. Logic tells me that the cable mount tab must be loose or unattached, and causing too much movement in the cable to open the door. Can anyone tell me where the "tab" is located on the cable, where it attaches to the housing, and if I can correct this without tearing the dash apart? Again, pics would be a great help! :?

It's either the switch or blower motor resistor.

On an air conditioned H-body, the fan's lower speeds are controlled directly from the switch through the blower resistor, but the high speed setting goes through a relay. It should be out on the A/C housing, not too far from the blower resistor.

Thanks, I'll check it out as soon as yesterday's snowfall melts and it gets back above freezing again! :th:
