72 Vega GT with Opel 4 speed. Engine choices?

Will anything but the stock 4 cyl 2300 bolt up to the opel 4 speed? What are my options if I am not concerned about HP?

The only engine I know of that GM made with a bellhousing to fit the Opel trans was the Vega 140. Unless you'd want to try to find an Opel 1.9L. Plus that trans is about as weak as the T-50 5-speed anyway, so you certainly wouldn't want anything more powerful.

It is possible to fabricate any engine to bolt up to the Opel 4 speed All it takes is time and money. The Opel transmissions are pretty weak, so you would be best served to change the transmission if you plan to upsize the engine. Saginaw transmissions are plentiful and I am sure somebody in the forum has a transmission mount for one. I might even have one.

I keep my two 72 Vega's original with the 140 and Opel 4 speed, so don't junk the engine or transmission. I like to keep spares.

From what I remember the Chevette engine used an Opel bolt pattern for the bellhousing, not sure about the transmission though. Could be an option, especially if you don't care about power

Thanks to everyone for replying. This is as I suspected. I'm trying to stay with the stock 140 however was interested in what my options were.
