early vega trans tunnel

Postby Shtbox » Sat May 16, 2020 6:11 pm

I have a 73 vega wagon with th250 in it. Should be the same dimensions as th350,,,,,so, will I still need to clearance the top of my trans tunnel when I do a SBC/th350 swap? I've read the later vegas had larger tunnels. Thanks in advance for any pointers

Not really the whole tunnel, but up by the firewall will need some hammering because the trans sits farther back with a V8.

thanks for the reply Smiley. That answers my next question too....so I can't use the OEM trans crossmember either? (because the trans needs to go further rearward to accommodate the V8) Thanks for your input, since the last V8 vega I built was over 30 yrs ago, with 4 speed and I simply cant remember denting in my firewall edge? I used the trans dapt kit back then with hooker headers. Just trying to get my ducks in a row BEFORE I disassemble this car. thanks Shtbox

I would look at powerbyace.com for trans crossmember. I would get the one with the brackets unwelded if you are not using his mounts. You have to communicate with him via email. 73 tunnel may not need much clearancing depending upon what transmission/bellhousing you use.

thanks Monza, I did. Looks like some nice products there. Pretty sure I'm going sbc/th350 to keep it simple.

My current Vega is a 73, still needed hammering at the tunnel.
I would use the ACE frame mounts and crossmember with Sanderson headers.
Kevco racing oil pan or modify one yourself if you can.
Griffin aluminum dual pass radiator.
