There is a small fuse(shortest one) just for the dash lights that's fed from the tail light fuse; in between is the dimmer function on the headlight switch. Wiggle and twist the headlight knob back and forth to see if the dash lights flicker; if you encountered a bad enough short to blow a fuse, it can make a little burnt spot on the rheostat inside the switch.
P.S.- the dash light wire is gray; did you hook up the light wire on the tach you just installed?
