Hey thanks and back at ya, love your car to, Im keeping up with the build, its looking great! my engine bay once looked like yours? It was all nice and painted up but I had the car at my brothers for awhile before I owned a welder. I hauled it back home in the middle of a nasty snow storm and was following a salt truck :censored: As you can see, that was a mistake. Im going to build a rolling dolley to fit under the front, dissasemble the front end again, roll it out side and sand blast the engine compartment, prime and paint. But thats not till this spring!!

Mounts are done just need to prime and paint after sand blasting. A big thank you to several members in engine section, Hardy style mount thread.
First pic is after bolting frame pads in, mounting Block pads and Tube's that attaches to them, then using heavy guage wire mating the two together (temp) to keep all angles and positions so they can be removed and center sections built on bench.

Got a start today on converting my 9" from drum to disc brakes. Found 5 Ford Explorers at the pull a part ranging in years from 97-01 Pictured in first pic is the 2001. I started on it, but it was going to be extra work pulling the axles to get to the goods. I ended up pulling from a 97 that someone had already pulled the axles from leaving the goodies for me :th: I didnt get to pull the E-brake cable cause the wife kept texting me are you done yet, are you done yet :( My 9" Ford rear has the Torino style ends with the Large bearings thats an exact match up for a blot on application. Im going to put together a start to finish with pics and sizes, and when its done Ill post in the proper forum thread so some can use the info. The only things I will need to mod is machine just a few thousandts off the center ring of my axles so the rotors will fit over them. I will also need a spacer to hold the bearing in place between the race and axle retaining plate since the Explorer caliper mounting bracket and splash shield are thicker than the backing plate from the drum set up.
Heres the 2001 Explorer disc set up. I believe the rears are 8.8 if I remember right.
Image
The Explorer has the E-brake system inside of the Rotors
Image
The Rotor hole is just barely smaller than my axle centers. Ill take Axles to work and machine them to fit.
Ill be getting new Rotors, and pads, this one was just for fitment.
Image
All the Goods I brought home,,,This I got for $34.00 If not for the Rotor It would have been $10.00 cheaper

Quick update, Got new rotors and pads, bead blasted ALL parts and primed and painted, just need to chuck the axles up in the lathe at work and turn down the center just a tad where the rotor center hole slides over and make some shims. Not much longer and Ill have disc on the 9" for just a touch over $100.00

I am extremely jealous of your read disk brakes. Thats a really sweet setup and unmatched for the price, I think I paid that much for my rear drums (which I then re-drilled chevy) but then again where I live parts are pricey!

My Brother just sent me some pics of my wagon tail gate mod slash repair. My car is a 74 but im turning into the 71-73 look all the way around. I had taken the tailgate and had it dip stripped, It was dented all ove pretty bad so I pulled the dents best I could and filled the license plate area and started body work. I decided to farm it out to my brother for $$$ since he is a body man and he decided to just reskin it and get rid of all the damaged metal. He is on his way over right now to fit it on the car and make sure its all lined up before continuing on. here is his progress pics.

Just a loose fit up of how the Explorer disc are working on the 9" im down to making the bearing shims. I have started machining them, just need to figure out what thickness they need to be.
The dust shield had gotten on the ground at the yard. I had to try and straighten it out,,,not perfect but ok.

After machining my axle centers, the rotors now fit.

My little Bro the body man. Doing a fit up and tweak on the gate before finishing it up for me.

Update on the Ford Explorer disc brake conversion for the 9". Well its ready to mount back under the car again but I had one snaphoo that im kind of bummed about. I had to leave out the internal E-brake guts for now because the Screw in studs rub on the brake adjuster and a spring that returnes the pads. When I had my axles redrilled I had them install screw in studs. The studs + the locknuts stick out to far hitting the E-brake guts. I thought I would just take the lock washers off but there is no threads up against the stud head to run them in any further. I could probable get some press in studs and make it work or maby just mill just a little off the screw in studs. Overall Im happy with the swap to dics.

Gonna wait to repaint everything when car is all but complete.

The studs hitting E-brake adjuster. They hit springs on other side

Thanks mega!! Here is the newly skinned tail gate smoothed in. It had the tail gate sunken plate as its a 74, so sunken plate bracket has been deleted.

Cut the hood for the scoop, getting ready to weld in filler peices between the skin layers and smooth in. I hate the look when you can see between the layers.
