What are the Chances?

Postby mySpyder77 » Thu Apr 22, 2021 2:01 pm

I will be the 5th owner of my 77 Spyder - what are the chances the previous owners were/are members here?

My Spyder had work done on/to it and unfortunately the owner I am buying mine from doesn't have any real details or specifics.

Thoughts?

Yes - I know it’s coming from Missouri but the seller didn’t really have any info and I guess they bought it with the work already having been done.

I guess it's supposed to be a decked 350 out of a Corvette with casting #3970010 and a 700R4 transmission.

Not sure if it's a 4-bolt or 2-bolt main and what was done for locking the trans as well as 5-lug conversion - but I'll throw it up on the lift and get a better look at things.

i went through the h-body registry and this is the only car that seems like it might match.

Not all 010 blocks are out of a Corvette, it was a common block used on a lot of different applications. My engine is a 010 block out of a 73 Chevy truck. It does have 4 bolt mains so I was lucky there.

Another listing for the car stated Corvette engine - but I’m with you.

Pretty common casting - I’ll see what I see when it arrives.

Looks to also have GM Performance aluminum heads, cam with a little rough idle and Edelbrock intake/carb as well.

that casting number could represent a 302 engine, a 327 engine and very first gen. 350 engine which would have been a 2 bolt main,(had one of those 350s in my 67 camaro back in 67) all the hotrodders around here claim to have corvette engines in their cars and i suppose that claim is all over the hot rod guys. must have been alot of corvettes with missing engines to have that many in hot rods. Ok - new intel ....

I spoke to one of the prior owners and got the following:

*Engine is a 1970 Corvette LT1 with aftermarket cam (Not sure of the cam card) and GM Performance Aluminum Heads - had about 30k on it at rebuild/build up
*Car sat for 30 years before being repainted - that owner had a transmission shop and it just sat there (Reason why the car has only ~12k miles on it)
*Owner I spoke to did all the 5lug conversion, suspension work and Monster Transmission

Now I just have to iron out some small wrinkles
