Need information on seat cover availability

Postby wally409 » Sat Nov 03, 2012 12:20 pm

Please let me know if there is anyone out there who reproduces Vega bucket seat and rear seat covers? I have a 72 from Arizona that has sun-burnt front and rear seats. But I don't know if I can use them because the soft, spongy material is hardened and is disintigrating. And it's really stinky (see photo). I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks. Wally.

Upholstery material is available, just buy a few yards and take it to a automotive trim shop and have them redone. They should be able to do the foam too. It won't be cheap, but they will look and feel like new again.

Hi,
From what i have read here, you can also get 71-73 camaro bucket seat cover material through places like year one.

Several guys here have used the pre sewn mid 70s camaro covers for the front seats. They dont work for the back without modifying them.

Wally-
SMS has your EXACT perforated Vinyl material - 71-75 Vega custom (tetra) vinyl and colors. They will sell the material by the yard or they will make the covers. I provided a link for samples. They will respond quickly to a sample request.
Link - http://www.smsautofabrics.com/request-samples.php

Original Auto Interiors also offers nos material, carpet sets, etc.
Link - http://originalauto.com/products/n-o-s- ... loth-vinyl

Classic Industries (Camaro) has the front bucket SEAT FOAM and covers - you can specify front only pair of covers, pre-made in a choice of several 71-77 Camaro vinyl or cloth patterns - the front seat foam and covers are styled the same as the Vega (pleating, etc) but your perforated vinyl material (used on 71-75 Vega custom trim option) was not available on the Camaro, only in a grained-vinyl, and using any of Classic's front bucket covers will require matching material/seat cover for the rear seat from AMS.

Suggestions
-Buy the front bucket seat foam from Classic, and buy the material/seat covers for the front buckets and rear seat from AMS if you want original Vega type vinyl pattern.
-get a quote on the seat covers made by SMS, and also a quote for just the material from SMS, with a quote from an interior shop for the labor turning the material into covers.
Are you planning on installing the covers yourself (on the new foams). Classic overs the installation kit. If not, you'll need a quote for installation. Find out if SMS will do it all , including the front foams and installation. Don't count on a new rear seat foam being made up however.

Ewward 31, I will welcome you aboard [again if I/we already did, memory is the first to go they say  ]
With old links some creativity maybe required, delete all the catalogue specific letters/numbers/symbols from the end of the link and go to the domain directly. Or just search the company name straight out. Things change all too frequently lately!
As in: https://ca.search.yahoo.com/search?p=ht ... s&ei=UTF-8
which nets: https://smsautofabrics.com/
Then: https://ca.search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt ... yfp-t&fp=1
Which yields: https://originalauto.com/ which is unfortunately now defunct. :(
And lastly: https://www.google.com/search?q=classic ... e&ie=UTF-8
Which also nets: https://www.classicindustries.com/
And even: https://www.classicindustries.com/shop/ ... ega/parts/ Yes a Vega section, not much in it but, it is there meaning they are testing the waters so to say.
