LS swap

Postby vegagt73 » Thu Apr 15, 2021 11:47 am

Do you always have to cut the firewall trans tunnel entrance to fit an automatic ?
Using ACE motor mounts ,and the engine is higher than my previous sbc's using
Hooker front engine mount kit.Did "massage the tunnel with that kit for 1/2" or so space between the
the trans bell housing and tunnel.

Hi vegagt73, You will have to cut up the tunnel and a bit at the opening firewall so it will get in there. I had to go through that with my 72 back in the day for a 350 th350 swap. The tunnel is smaller than the later 75 and up tunnel.

Thanks,my car is a 1975 Cosworth body ,so the tunnel is supposed to be wider than pre '73 to begin with.
But appreciate the reply and hope someone can respond that has done this in the '75 and up
with an automatic.
Also interested to know who has tried Power by ACE 1 3/4 headers for there fit,and is there such thing
as not having to lift the motor to install them /I've read his instructions and seems a godsend for the simplicity ?
HELP !

Do you have the dash number and the last 6 numbers of the VIN? That way the Club can make sure we have it listed in the Registry.

Not to rehash an old thread, but I just finished putting in a 6.0 with 200-4r.

Had no firewall issues at all. I used stock trans crossmember and made my own engine mounts.

Car is 1980 sunbird, originally 4cyl auto.
