262 replacement carb

Postby MonzaMikeV8 » Thu Nov 25, 2021 1:27 pm

Hi,

i had rebuilt my carburator a couple of years ago but I was never satisfied as it never seemed to be working properly when the engine was cold. I never really wanted replace it, as I thought it was the original carb. It was not until this year until I first realized that the 1bbl carb on my stock 262 was probably not original at all. From what I found, the 262 engine came with a 2bbl only ?! Is that correct ?? Now, I have to say that this particular car was sold new in europe - did GM probably put 1bbl carbs into the europe cars ? However the 1bbl needs to go. What would you suggest is the best matching carb for a stock 262. It still has the stock intake manifold, I would like to keep it, but if it has to go, it has to go... I'm not looking for a performance upgrade, just like to know what fits the 262 best.

Thanks,
Mike

I would just look for a stock 2 bbl carb. May have to get a replacement one, but should be fine.

a 1bbl on a 262 would be odd, the 262 wasn't a powerhouse with the 2 bbl, my 80 Monza V6 had a 2 bbl, I couldn't imagine them putting 1 bbl on the 262 unless it was to meet some weird emission rule or something. Got any pic's of the carb and intake?
