427/ 454 block value

Postby jim327monza » Thu Mar 07, 2024 9:44 am

I have a 454 block (casting # 3999289) bored 60 over, trw l2268 60 over pistons and a GMPP 427 steel crank. The parts are from an unfinished project that my friend started for his 77 vet and never finished. He gave me the parts after he had a stroke and sold off all his vets. I have no use for a BBC, but do not want to throw it away. I have no clue as to value in today's market. The parts have been sitting for 20 + years. Any thoughts as to value? anyone interested. I would love to clear the space in my garage.

Jim,

My advice is as follows: I purchased a 454 from a Suburban that had 125K miles. I paid $700 for it. I had the heads redone, block cleaned and it didn't need to be bored - it was within tolerance. Installed a Crane Cam, new lifters. The machine shop installed new cam bearings. I assenbled it with new main and rod bearings, new rings, oil pump and water pump. I used an aluminum 66 427 intake and a new Edelbrock 650 carb.
It ran perfectly in my 77 C10 short box pickup. I believe I had about $3000 in the engine after rebuild.

Don't throw it away. It has value for someone. Good Luck!

You sell things in the strangest places. I have tried the the local for sale papers, internet sites, car shows', even went to the local machine shops, to sell the 427 block. No luck. About 4 weeks ago, I was talking to a customer where I work about our old cars when he mentioned an old Camaro that he was building a BBC for. Upshot was that he wanted the block, thought the price was great and came by two days latter to pick it up. Mabey I should spend more time talking to customers about old cars than trying to sell them plumbing parts!
