Postby mrj52 » Thu Jan 16, 2020 6:38 pm

I am looking to install another power steering box in my 77 Skyhawk, Would like to know what the stock ratio would be in these cars. Thanks in advance. TIM

The stock ratio is a variable design, 16:1 on center and 13:1 as you approach full lock. I had mine converted to a straight 12:1 ratio by Lee Power Steering in California. They also installed a high effort control valve for more "feel" like a modern car, I am very happy with it. It's much cheaper to purchase a new replacement gear box but you need to make sure the spline count matches up or are willing to make mods............

Thank you. I have a 14 to 1 box out of a 78 Z28, looking to rebuild it and install it. Not sure it would that it make enough difference. I want a dramatic difference in steering input

I used a box out of an '86 Monte Carlo SS. I had to adapt the lines and the input spline. That wasn't a problem as I got the correct u-joint for the input from Flaming River and found the adapters for the AN hoses I used.
