Cosworth Steering Box

Postby 70's Flashback » Thu Mar 05, 2020 9:22 pm

Looking to replace/upgrade my Cosworth steering box and had some questions I was unable to find the answers for after reading EVERYTHING I could find here on steering. I understand the stock CV box was the larger/heavier duty box which may have also been found on other later h-bodies such as the Spyder. Question is: Is this a fast ratio 16:1 box? If so, is there a direct bolt in from Flamming River or Borgeson ? If I buy the Flamming River FR1500Q (16:1) do I keep my Cosworth centerlink which I believe is the power steering link? Or is this application a direct replacement for the smaller slow ratio box which uses the manual center link? Part numbers would be really helpful if anyone knows. THANKS guys!

The stock CV steering box ratio is in the low 20's, 16:1 was a dealer installed box. CV does use the P/S center link. From the picture the Flamming River FR1500Q is the smaller Vega box and uses the manual link.

~ What about the spline count? I have noticed 25 and 26 for H-bodies. Why are some with a stubby input shaft and some with a longer shaft? My buddy came by looking for one for his vega but the one I have from the 74 is a long shaft. I was going to give it to him till we noticed the difference. The one from the Cosw. is a short shaft. Were using the short one in the FrankenVega. And..is the Corvette one the same?
