Ken & Bryan:
I'm a truck driver so I'm not always up to date with posts.

I got that information from an old Vega - Monza parts catalog.

Thanks,

Sure enough, checked out the parts manual at chevyinfo.net and "Contents" page had all the codes. I thought I read that page at one time (I won't forget again).

Do body tags often omit/exclude information about the vehicle? It is obvious that they couldn't include every single detail as the body tag is only so big.

What I am curious about is that two of my 72 Vega Kammback's are GT's, but one body tag shows the Z29 code and the other doesn't. In fact the tag I posted above was one of them and the Z29 code isn't there even though there was plenty of room to have it.

1976 Vega Wagon, Built at lordstown Chassis build # 381003. ie; the 381,003rd chassis built at Lordstown that model year.

71m Interior trim code. 71m = maroon vinyl. A51- Aliens from area 51 worked on your car. J/K A51 is just a standard code for bucket seats.

36L 36U... Firethorn exterior paint.

08B Built on the 2nd week of aug 1976 - 2 weeks away from being a '77 model.

Scheduled for production on day 206 in line at number 1321
260289- This Vega was number 160,289

FUL???? This corresponds to some option your car has. A buildsheet would help identify it.

Well, this is weird. According to the FAQ, there were only 159,077 Vegas built in 1976.
I'll try to get a picture of the trim tag of my 76 Vega - thought I had it (ah - it's in my garage - garage.php?mode=view_image&image_id=2313). Here's the numbers:
ST 76 1HV77 U 386279
19M A51 13L 13U
08B 03-9427
259072

VIN = 1V77B6U259072

My 76 Silver Vega GT has a higher body # (386279 vs. 380,003), but a lower VIN (259072 vs. 260289) than iced98lx 76 Firethorn Kammback. How could that be?

Body numbers that jump around in relation to Vin numbers is actually quite common in GM production. Both the Camaro and Firebird assembly process descriptions on the internet discuss this.

Quite a few reasons could cause this. Most likely being that one body might sit in a "Bodybank" area for a while while another gets assembled right after body by fisher construction.

I think this video is somewhat close to how monza's were assembled.. Chrysler 2010

Where are the first place to look for the build sheet? Under the carpet? If so, any particular place under the carpet?

I think you also mentioned in some other thread that it could be hidden behind the platic cover back on the passenger seat?

A numbered list where to look please :D

There's not much on those tags that you dont already know.

That paragraph stamped into the tags disappeared sometime after april '78.

Seems to read correctly. I have a 76 tag and the numbers are placed in the same area. Also no Federal Conformity Paragraph. Yours does look messed up otherwise. Sanded or something. And the last line is incomplete.. Yours have a vinyl top?
