Wiper arm removal?

Postby 80 MONZTA » Tue Oct 12, 2010 3:47 am

First off, is this an original arm? That ring sitting on the cowl is plastic, and I can't remember seeing any others like it.
The arm has a tab underneath it, but I can't push or pull it to release the arm. The tab is in the second pic about the 10:00 position on the dental mirror (not a good pic, but the best I could do). I thought I better ask here before I mess something up, because I was starting to get frustrated messing with it.

Those do look like the stock arms and those plastics pieces are original. The arms fit on splined shafts, as far as I remember they are just pressed on.

They are hard to get off. Lift straight up and they come off.

Yup, that would sure make it easier, that's the hard part getting leverage on the back side there. The arm must come straight up.

Thanks! Piece of cake when you know what to do. I placed a piece of plywood on the cowl, used a small pry bar and they poped right off. Thanks again guys.

Don't have to mess with the "tab" it is not a lock, but just puts pressure on the shaft to help hold the arm in place. Simply pull the arm straight off however you can. If you pry it like I did, just be carefull as the cowl could be bent by putting too much pressure on it.

Yep, block of wood and medium prybar worked great, thanx. This place is so useful. :)

I always lay a couple towels on the hood because the wipers tend to get away from you and land on your hood.
