Postby jim327monza » Sat Aug 04, 2018 5:13 pm

Any suggestion on a better way to remove the drivers side spark plugs on a v-8 with out having to loosen the motor mounts and jacking the motor up? any special tools?
As always Thanks Jim H

When I still had the stock exhaust manifolds I remember taking a spark plug socket and shortening it a bit to get a couple plugs out. You may need the socket with the hex on the end to get a wrench on it to loosen the plug. I never loosened the engine mounts to get the plugs out.

Clyde, Thanks for the reply. I have a few left over K-Mart sockets that will work for cut down. Any thoughts on using the "shorty" style plugs for additional clearance ?

I don't have any real spark plug issues. I use regular ACDelco's but I do have Hooker 2135 headers and MSD HEI wires, not sure what you have for exhaust? The MSD's seem to hold up very well even though a couple boots are very close to the headers, no melt down at all.

clyde, MSD wire, gen 3 Camaro exhaust manifolds on 041 heads. The 041 take the bigger 13/16 plugs. 1& 3 plug boots rub on the steering shaft just a little bit. Just looking for a little bit of extra clearance. No major issue. (ac delco r43s)
