Ecotec Turbo Conversion

Postby straws » Tue Jun 23, 2020 10:44 am

Has anyone thought about doing the 4cyl turbo conversion? I have the itch again looking for a car, and I want something different, something that will burn the tires, but not break the bank. I just realized the ecotec motors can be quite extreme. For example a 2013 Regal Turbo GS has 270 hp, and 298 ft/lb torque...stock! That is a big number, and it is still GM, nothing sacrilegious here. Complete wrecked donor cars are about $1200? A quick search has the miata guys out there with some mods dyno'd around 360 hp with 30 mpg and AC. They are using manual transmissions though.

I would be looking for a way to connect one to an automatic transmission (RWD).

Thoughts, suggestions?

What transmission were you thinking of using? I can draw up a CAD drawing with the Ecotec bolt pattern and say the TH350 pattern. I can send you the file and then take that to any shop in your area that has a CNC laser cutter. For template purposes, make it out of 1/8" aluminum. From there, once you know everything lines up, we can modify the drawing for thickness, dowels, etc. Then you can take that file to your local water jet guy for the big cuts. After that, any machine shop can counterbore for dowel pins.

Seems easy enough.

I took 10 seconds on Google and came up with this link.
https://transmissionadapters.com/collections/ecotec

Provided all Ecotec inline fours have the same bellhousing pattern, it has what you're looking for.
