3.8 swap

Postby al89 » Sun Aug 27, 2023 8:57 pm

I have an engine out of an 85 gbody. I want to put it into a 77 Sunbird. The pulleys don't like they are going to work. I was wondering if anyone has pictures of what pulleys go onto a 3.8 231Buick engine, or has pictures. Thanks!

Anyone looking looking for a low mileage 4.8 liter LS. I maybe willing to swap for all the other parts I am missing to back to stock. Thanks!

The only advise I can add is be careful about Metric VS SAE bolts.
Years ago I did a reverse swap took the 3.8L Buick engine from a 1979 Skyhawk, and put it into a 1983 Olds Cutlass wagon that had a blown engine. Somewhere between 78 & 83 GM changed all the bolts holes on the front and rear of the 3.8's to metric bolt holes (the motor mount and exhaust manifold bolt holes were still SAE). I had a heck of a time trying to reuse the transmission mounting bolts and the front accessory bracket mounting bolts from the Cutlass. Took me most of a day trying to start the transmission to engine block bolts with the engine sitting in the car.
I have a bunch of left over 3.8L buick pulleys laying around if you need something you can have the lot for shipping costs.
