Winter project

Postby norcalace » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:25 pm

Well I finally got around to loading the pictures of my winter prject. As you can see I built a console and added Autometer guages to the dash. I also added cruise control, power remote door locks and a remote start, footwell lights, an s10 mirror with map lights and lights for the rear hatch. I also did a complete stereo install with 4 Sony speakers, a Rockford Fosgate Amp and a 12" sub. The amp and 2 6x9s are where the back seat used to be (pics coming) and the sub is where the spare tire used to be.

Some of the details are the seats were moved back 6.5" and lowered 2.5". The shifter and park brake were moved back 6" and dropped into the tunnel. I also shortened the park brake lever.

Can't quite tell what you did, norcalace. A few words?
Ah, a few pics and it is all clear now. NICE CONSOLE and DASH. Not too many people modify their interiors that much. I like it. Good work!

Was that a GT or a standard dash?

Love the console, what shifter is that? I like that better than big ones that sit on top of the tunnel vs yours being flush.

T-Fatty,

It was a GT dash. The shifter is a B & M Sportshifter. I cut 3" out of the lever and welded it back together. I placed it in the box I fabbed which drops it 3.5" into the tunnel. I also fabbed brakets onto the brake lever and lowered it into the tunnel also as well as relocating it 6.5" back from the factory location.

I did all this to give me more leg room even though I'm only 6' I felt cramped with the seats in their stock locations. Now I have excess leg room and arounf 6" of head room.

Here are a couple pics of the modified seat tracks

Yeah...real nice stuff...Im not even a stereo fan but I can appreciate the craftsmanship.
I also noticed you went through about 4 or 5 shifter knobs in those pictures too...hehe.

God bless

Thanks everyone for all the great comments. Much appreciated!! I love doing the fab work almost as much as frying the hides off leaving the parking lot at work.

For those wondering....no I won't make a console for you. We both don't have enough time and you could'nt justify the cost to your CFO. (labor, I aint got over $50 in material)

I will however try to answer any questions about how I did it or what was involved with the build work.

My next project is a complete repaint this winter, 2nd gen Camaro tail panel, 2nd gen Camaro gas tank and a 4 point roll bar that is not visible from outside the car.

Did I point out that my cupholders are lighted? 8)

Mark,

The tubing is !/2" square and all the sheet metal is 18 guage except for the drop box for the shifter and cup holder.

I welded studs to the backsides of the panels so I could attach it to the frame. That way there are no exposed screws except for the front side panels. I had to screw them on as they went on last and covered the wires and such.
