Most Chevrolet 8.5" rearends that I've messed with, come with a .035
shim behind the Pinion bearing. Richmond gears usually use the same
shim or 2-3 thousands more.

I've installed a set of Motive Gears from a local O'Reilly Part Store
& I really liked the way the Gears worked-out but, they worked with
a .041 shim.

Now I have the tools to set the Pinion depth right & the Gears have
the Pinion Depth marked on them and using the above figures (Shims)
they should work.

Just look at the Pattern on the Ring gear, keep it in the middle on
both sides (A little toward the Pinion won't hurt) and I believe that
you'll be pretty close.
