Slow

Postby monzamess » Sat Jan 20, 2024 11:33 am

Had some cruft bogging down the forum for a while, making it very slow to load pages. Sorry everyone. It's resolved for now.

Is there a reason I have to log in every time I visit the forum? I select "keep me logged in" but it doesn't work.

Sometimes sessions get purged during board maintenance and you'll need to log back in.

No, this has been happening for months, I can leave page and come right back and it makes me log in again.

Might be because I switched to https. I found some info on how that could cause what you described, and it offered a potential solution, so I implemented it just now. A side effect is that you'll need to log in again, but if the solution worked, we *should* be back to normal. I hope.

Seems to be working! I went back and forth a couple times and did not have to log back in. Thanks!

I had to purge sessions one more time to implement some further corrections to the website. Sorry....

Specifically, I now redirect all http traffic to https (keep us all secure!) and redirect any straggling www.h-body.org/forums links to forums.h-body.org . I suspect that may have been causing some of our issues.

The same thing happens to me, but it's because of my cookie settings. I have the security cranked up pretty high.

I don't want to get into too many details just in case the perpetrators are actually watching our little corner of the world, but in searching for the ultimate source of the slowdowns on this board, I've sorted out (I think/hope) several issues with the board. Some of those changes involved changing cookies, redirecting everyone to HTTPS and a standard URL format, purging active sessions, etc. Any of those actions may have caused disruption to your sessions. For now, I think I am done with those sorts of actions. The actual source of the slowdowns was something else, which is now resolved, but those changes I made in troubleshooting the problem were for the best anyway.
