...and vice-versa.

Dennis...maybe this category should be just under "General"? It almost seems hidden down here.

I'm kinda pissed that I have to have a minimum amount of posts to view the for sale section. Are you trying to discourage new members? Is this becoming some kind of private club that only frequent posters can join? I'm sure the persons with items listed really appreciate the sudden limited market for their items

Jon, I understand what you're saying, but you should also be able to understand why it's being done. We've had issues with spammers, and in order to be part of the "community" you've gotta post :)

25 posts to see the for sale section isn't asking much, I know people who can post 25 relevant replies in two hours, you should be able to get a few posts just by creating a thread in the Projects section and telling us about your car. Converse and weigh in on other people's cars, join us... Don't be a lurker :)

its protection for members NEW and OLD , this is something that has been happening on alot of national websites , due to theft/internet fraud

would you feel better buying from someone with 1 post and just joined up , or someone thats been on the site along time and is well known

granted its always buyer beware , but this will take some guess work out of it

I think you missunderstood what he meant. Requiring that many posts in order to post in those area's is good, but not even being able to see anything for sale without the minimum posts required is not good in my opinion.

That may be a limit of the pHpBB software, however... I've never tried to just restrict posts in a forum by post count.. You can make it viewable or not quite easilly...

Double edged sword.

kinda depends on how the site is set up , there might not be a option to view only and not allow posts , or post and not be able to start a thread for a item so it might be the only way to keep things down

either way 25 posts shouldnt take that long , keep in mind alot of sites require a minimum of 50 some are even 100 posts , and they have to be in certain sections , so a place like off-topic wouldnt count towards your total post count , also if you whore it up and just post useless dribble , they get deleted and user usually gets a short ban , or even a perma ban

the ls1gto site even added a 2nd forsale section for those that dont want to follow the sites rules and it leads you to craigslist , lol

and adam has it right its a double edged sword , but i think its for the better and to help protect us all

Protect us from.... ?

Have there been a rash of scams I didnt hear about?

And yes I would feel fine inquiring about about parts from a one post or 2500 poster.

I'll ask questions and be able to determine if the sale is legit or not. I dont just send out money to anyone. And I'm a reasonable good judge of charachter.

Why are we trying to protect people who can't tell if a sale is legit or not?

All this is gonna do, is make newbies think were a bunch of idiot elitists.

sorry if my opinion is harsh, and anyone takes offense.

I generally agree with you, but it's not my site :) I can understand why some forum admins do this, personally I don't think this one needed it, but once again, not my site.

It's my opinion that if a recipe has worked well for 3-4 years, don't change it. This site isn't a mega-board, and therefore doesn't need much moderation, in my opinion, just kill spam as it comes, and be done with it. Only need 3-4 "regulars" to police for blatant commercial spam, and delete it. Minimums, etc just add headache IMO.

I do agree that we should have a "craigslist/ebay" forum separate from the For Sale section though, and hope to see one in the near future.

I just hope that this doesn't lead to a bunch of petty bickering, I've seen online communities fall completely apart for less...

Everyone says 25 posts on here, but I just went there again and it still says 100 posts. A little extreme for a site that has as many as 3 people on it at one time? I have been trying to do some posting to run my numbers up a little bit but the rules say no meaningless posts just to build numbers. So these have to be 100 meaningful posts. I'll be lucky if I come up with one meaningful thing to say a month in my regular life let alone 100 on a web site.
It was mentioned that I shouldn't be a "lurker"...sounds kind of seedy doesn't it...I'm a "learner" I'm new to the H body thing and have used this site to learn how to solve some problems and find some things that I either needed or didn't know existed.
Now half of the reason I come here is 100 posts away.
BTW I found this site through a guy that bought something from me that I had posted on Craigslist and some one linked it here. If today were my first time on this site and I went to look at the classifieds and saw this new requirement I'd mouse my arrow right up to that X and never return.

New to the forum but old to car buying and selling and one thing has never changed and that is be careful when buying. We all know internet buying is risky at best, so weather the person has one post or a hundred it's still all the same risk you see this played out on ebay every day. What I think is a shame is the loss of the one time car seller that has had one sitting around in yard and doesn't sell on ebay and can't sell on sites like this is only left with the option to call junk yard and we all know that is bad for all of us. This rule may be costing us all good parts. Also, I see no reason to stop an outsider from buying, as you said most people selling on here are already well known. Oh well your forum your rules I'm just glad to find other vega people :th:
